I have one for sale and tried all the usual channels and no joy. Its almost brand new and I think I have priced it well but no joy! are they just not sought after????
It's not just Prestige, I think in these hard times more people are getting rid of used saddles instead of leaving them in the tack room, the market seems flooded and prices are really down.
I'm currently looking for a 2nd hand dressage saddle and, given the number that are currently for sale, I'm a little surprised that some people are unwilling to budge on their price, even a little bit!
I do accept they don't want to give them away for nothing but some people are being unrealistic in the current market. The saddles aren't selling as the same ads keep appearing time and time again with no change in the price at all!
Sorry Charlie76 - obviously not referring to you personally!
Agree with sbloom, a friend was trying to sell a good 'named' saddle and just couldn't find anyone to buy it (she reduced and reduced the price), luckily it ended up fitting her new horse but she had no interest in it when trying to sell.
I am selling mine for half the price its worth, it cost me a ruddy fortune and the horse doesn't like it (maybe I should sell him and buy a horse that likes the saddle!!!)
Has Sue had no joy selling it for you? Selling 2nd hand saddles, especially expensive brands, is always tricky as people tend to want to try them and have them checked. I'd give it to a saddler who deals with the brand on commission
I'm looking for a second hand saddle but can't seem to find any that fit the spec at a good price, most are well overpriced for their condition . Even my saddler is having trouble.
Can I be cheeky and ask for the specs of your saddles? ;-)
yep I think the market is rubbish atm. Sent 2 saddles off to be sold months ago, autumn time (?). One I understand as the brand is not well known in the UK but is still a decent saddle. The other is an albion been ridden in less than 20 times (and mainly walk with a few short trots) it doesn't even have stirrup leather rub marks! The agreed price was average for it as a second hand saddle and its essentially brand new!. Ive just been thinking Im going to have to get them back off her and try something else to sell them as I would like to buy madam a DR saddle.
oh gosh I can't remember, as we took them to the saddlers as I say around blinking autumn time! I do remember that she said in the current market it won't make any difference to resale price that it was pretty much brand new and so we agreed to go for an average price for that saddle at the time (I'd looked at them on ebay before we took it in so knew roughly what that was)- the idea being same price as proper 2nd hand saddles but basically new it should sell well.....nope. sorry I can't be of more help! .
Having the same problem sold one of my saddles at a considerable loss. Have been.looking to buy a second hand albion and those prices are not much less than brand new. Have a bates dressage saddle to sell and can not sell it. It is a lot less than half price new and still people are offering me basically nothing for it!! I can't seem to win.
I'm desperately looking for a second hand 16.5" dressage saddle for a pony and having no luck!! I hate bidding on eBay and only do Buy It Now. Been looking on BD classifieds, regional horsey Facebook groups etc.
I sold a Passier through a free ads website and got paid cash (funnily enough it went back to the yard I bought it from!!) *When I advertised my Amerigo on BD last year, which I eventually kept, I had a lot of knowledgeable Amerigo fans calling and asking very specific questions about it which I couldn't answer, including an Olympic rider. I got the impression they would have bought in a flash but I hadn't realised how many different "mediums" the saddle came in and it wasn't the right one for anyone! I had it advertised at 2k.*
charlie76 - just to let you know that (very weirdly), the day after this thread I was rung by the tack shop/saddle fitter that has my saddles because someone wanted my albion . It was an albion K2 VSD in as new condition, was sold for £500 (though the saddler took commission so we won't be getting the whole amount). Hope that helps a little with your pricing .
Ive just sold my Albion SLK dressage saddle. I put it on facebook and thought nothing more of it then a couple of weeks late somone asked it i still had it and she bought it.
Ive got a Prestige Event on Ebay at the mo. Cost £1350 this time last year yet not even a sniff of a bid at £850 !! Considering ending the listing TBH.... *grumps*
Friend has had her lovely prestige with a local saddler for 9 months and not sold it. Very reasonably priced as well. Mind you I just bought a new jump saddle and got it for a great price so I guess it's a buyers market.
I think it is very much the market - high end but not that high end goods are not really moving as people either want bargains or, if they are buyers with money, they want exactly what they want and nothing else.
I do agree that having all the info on the saddle is important though, especially with the high end models. Many of the makers will give you the original specs on the saddle if you send off the serial number.
I will say, from a personal perspective though, so many saddles have been "messed with" now it's increasingly impossible to guess how a saddle is going to fit from the original specs and it may be impossible to put it back to neutral. I'd say this is less an issue with foam panelled saddles but even then, you don't know if someone has been at the tree. If the saddle has not had much done to it and is in "factory condition" more or less, that's probably something to advertise in its favour.
Have you tried posting it on preloved ? I have just bought my self a Ideal Monarch Professional GP condition as new.
It was up for sale on preloved for £650
Call me Sherlock Holm's ! I spotted the saddle for sale on the guys face book for £450 !!!!!
Emailed him to say whats the bottom line ( At that point he thought I was interested in the saddle at £650 ). He came back with £600 I replied with you having a laugh its on your FB page for £450
He replied with " Sorry Was a bit cheeky of me but saw it on preloved for £650 so thought I would try and get more, can't blame me for trying!! Would you do £425? " My response was "I don't blame you for trying but the cheek has cost you lol £400 plus postage.
I have had it a week and very happy ! Good luck with selling yours ;-)
I'm suprised at this as the Prestige tree can be heated and altered to fit the horse numerous times. However, I bought mine new for £500 off ebay, and had it altered for £60. Now I have a perfectly fitting new saddle for less than £600 - bargain!
