Is there such a thing as a breakable haynet?

At our yard if we want haynets they have to be tied quite low (to the bars of the stable partition), the YO would much prefer we use the racks provided or the floor, we are not allowed to put our own rings up. I really do need to use a small hole net as George is such a piggy but I've taken it out at the moment as I'm paranoid he is going to get caught up in it with his giant feet! So does anyone know if you can buy haynets from breakable net rather than the super strong nylon ones?
 
TBH I wouldnt use a net at all. Go to your local builder's merchant and buy a HUGE rubber trug. They're about a fiver, and super super strong. You can put his hay in so he can eat it off the floor, which is much better for them. Either that or tie the haynet inside the rack?

This part of the OP is the reason for using a haynet rather than a rubber trug I'm sure!

I have the same problem with my girl. She's on box rest and obviously when there's hay there, she spends the whole time eating. I want to slow her down as much as possible so she can eat for as long as possible (if that makes sense!), so small holed haynet it is.

Any ideas on how to continue slowing her intake take but being able to eat from the ground/lower would be appreciated, so will watch this thread with interest!

I had this problem with Beau, he kept getting his dinner plates caught in the nets!

So I got a hay bar, but I dont have the problem of him being a piggy. BUT what you could do, is get a hay bar and hang a small holed haynet inside the haybar, so still at the same height it is now, the hay bar will stop him getting his legs caught in the net, and is round and totally safe.

sometimes using a two or three pony haylage nets on different walls is the way to go. The problem with putting nets inside nets or slowing down their eating too much is they will paw, and that's when legs get trapped. I also hang up carrots, swede, and put apples in his water. i also have a snackball which i put fibre nuts in which keeps him entertained for hours.
 
Thanks for the ideas, haybar won't happen as I would have to drill holes in the stable - definate no no! Shame though.

Now cutting up a haynet and putting it inside his rack could work a treat and that would be really safe - it would really slow him down as well, think I will try that with some hay on the floor as well so he doesn't get too depressed! Or maybe one of the bag - couldn't afford more than 1 though at that price!

I also have a snack ball, sometimes he empties it, sometimes he looks at it in disgust!
 
You could always do what I did with Beau before he got his hay bar.
Im assuming yours are indoor stalls, well I tied some baling twine aroudn the top of the bars in a loop hanging down, then tied the hay net onto that twine.

That meant that the haynet was higher than Beau's legs could reach, and no holes etc were drilled.
