Is there such a thing as a hat the doesn't make your head sweaty??

I am riding before work at the moment (more natural light in the morning than the evening!). I shower before I leave home, get changed at the stables then head straight to work. Baby wipes and deodorant de-smell my body but I am struggling with my hair! It gets so sweaty under my hat. I use a 'hat deodorant' in my hat before and after I ride but it all still gets a bit smelly! In addition, my head then gets cold as my hair is damp (I can't really sit at my desk wearing a woolly hat!)

Unless anyone has any other tips for me I am wondering if I need to think about changing my hat? What are the ones with air vents in the front like?

Sorry if this post is not really 'CR' but I thought you guys might have some suggestions!!

Well I have the same problem plus my forehead gets sweaty which sometimes brings on an eczema patch...no doubt cos of all the encrusted old sweat in there! I am sure I saw some advice on here so am now modelling the queen/ princess Anne look with a silk headscarf. Looks a bit circa 1970 but does the job!
 
i don't get sweaty in my AYR8 but if you don't want to change hats do what alot of female jockeys do...wear a buff on your head http://www.buff.eu/en/IRL/home under your hat! When I was riding out before work I would wear one under my skull cap and no problem!!
 
My LAS hat is very vented, never get a sweaty head with it and if it rains very heavily my hair gets wet through the vents so double cooling effect! It looks pretty too :)
 
I get fed up of the hat head look.

Wonders how expensive the UVEX ones are, where they are stocked and are they up to the current standards?

Agreed I love my Uvex hat I bought at Aachen. I always said I'd only wear it in the summer when it's hot, but I'm still wearing it now. So comfy and lightweight and also it feels like it fits me so much better than all of the UK makes - the chin strap never loosens and the dial at the back of the head is much better for keeping the fit secure than the laces lots of hats use. I don't know why these technologies aren't used more in UK designs!
 
Someone on here the other day said they'd found a hat with a removable inner for washing. This is SUCH a good idea, I'm sure most of the "hat hair" look is becasue of old sweat like you say! Sadly, I can't remember what make they were talking about - oops!
 
I bought one a couple of months ago that looks a bit like a cycling helmet. It has a detachable lining & cost about £68. I'm at work so can't check the model, but I'll have a look when I get home, if I remember.
 
I have a harry hall air vented hat & its useless - I agree with the dry shampoo idea, it is brilliant stuff!
 
I've just brought a Gatehouse F1, which is cheaper (a LOT!) than the KEP's and speedairs, and is kitemarked too, which I don't think the Uvex are. I also get a cold head when out hacking and cantering, so definitely worth a look ;)
 
Hi There, Team GB Endurance have recently taken on the Gatehouse Air Rider due to its highly ventilated design and incredible light weight feel. The Gatehouse Air rider also has a removable washable liner! No more hat hair :)
Other than that, as previously suggested by Katb, The Gatehouse F1. Again, highly ventilated and stylish with a low profile sporty look.

Thanks for all of your fab responses! Aside from Buff and dry shampoo (will try first as certainly the cheapest option!), the UVEX certainly seems like the leader. I had a look on a few no UK websites and the price seems reasonable however do they comply with the UK standards?
 
Where does everyone buy their Uvex hats from as can't find any retailers online? This is a thread close to my heart as a new job in January will be mean that I need to ride on route to work with no time to go home for a shower afterwards and smelling strongly and hat hair isn't quite the impression I'm hoping to make on my new colleagues! :o

Any other suggestions for not smelling (buff and dry shampoo noted) will be very appreciated!

Also, is there a way of not having a neon red face when you go inside out of the cold?
 
I bought my Uvex off a trade stand in Luhmuhlen, I think their prices vary quite a lot from model to model, but could be wrong. Not sure about the UK standards versus other European ones? It also has a detachable, washable inner lining.

flippa-t, I remember a friend of mine at Uni swore by the Body Shop's correcting fluid, think you put it on under your make-up so to say, pretty sure the one to counteract a red face was green coloured, don't know if it's still made.

Lots of babywipes to de-smell!
 
I think i would be a bit nervous about riding in something that had not been approved for safety in the uk???

I had a look on the Derby House website - the JTE Sprint Ulta looks nice and drafty? Anyone had any experience with this. The plus side of this one is that i can have it in brown - i hate black!!

The gatehouse one with the removeable linner also looks good!

I have one and love it! I bought mine as I use to get a very sweaty head and use to get a rash on my forehead. I also ride before work, so not a good look! Since I have had it, my head hasn't got hot at all, even when having a hard lesson, haven't had a rash on my forehead either, definately recommend them, won't go back to wearing a "normal" hat.

When the wind is strong you can feel it through the hat, which is a very bizarre feeling! lol!
 
Uvex/GPA speed air might be nice but they are only tested to 1384 which for me is not high enough, I opted to continue to look like I have just got out of the shower, rather than risk it!!!
