Is there such a thing as self cooling jackets?

Dogs have self cooling mat (that they refuse to lie on ?) and a paddling pool that they ignore.

Is there such a thing as a self cooling coat for them? The ones that have to be soaked/kept wet aren't an option apparently (mums dogs not mine).

You could argue that if the dogs themselves don’t feel the need to cool themselves down then they are ok ? I would never use such a thing as a cooling coat, if such a thing exists ? Give them a choice.

Bravo, happy for you and your dogs.

One of the three dogs needs assistance and a self cooling coat would offer that.

I wasn't asking for any opinions on the use of any methods to keep the dogs safe and comfortable, merely if such a thing existed because I havent been able to find anything suitable thus far.

My dog made a choice to try and eat a tub of Botanica and snaffle a lollipop stick last night, think I'll take my chances and make the decisions in this house ?

TPO I don't use them but I know people who do so I'll send them a message.

((PS lots of dogs don't like making choices, it stresses them out, have that training tip for free, folks!!))

Thanks @CorvusCorax

2 out of 3 are frenchies so not a great mix with heat because of their show quality facial deformities and the most squished one is also black (brindle to be technically correct before l get hauled up on that).

They are not know for making good choices. Black beast is fighting to get back to lying on the windowsill where it's even hotter through the glass despite having a cool hallway, fan and cooling mat at various locations. Suicide by sun??

OP, I know that you said you weren’t asking about the coats that have to be kept wet, but IME they do keep working for a few hours.

Didn’t even know that there are ones that can be used dry, I’ll be interested to hear about those too :).

You can get reflective coats that look like tin foil but I'm not sure that's what you're looking for. They do work though. My friend had them when she was regularly showing her springers and used them for the outdoor shows. In between classes obviously :)

I put damp t-shirts over mine when its ridiculously hot. But I saw a cooling harness/coat hybrid in B&M of all places yesterday. I looked at it and thought what a good idea it would be for little dogs. So they do exist.

Thanks for asking for me ?
I just bought a "wetting" one. If all else fails I'll just stick the dog on
Stick the dog on what :D?!

I didn’t expect too much of the cooling coat that I bought last year, but to my surprise the late elderly JRT was happy to wear it, and it made his last summer much more comfortable.

Let us know how you get on.

Dont know what happened there ?

Stick the dog on Antarctic's version of preloved so she can live in more suitable conditions!

I don't know why the wet versions were a no from the mothership but I've bought one anyway. Black bricks with squashed faces don't do well in any sort of heat so it's worth a shot!

I think the issue was probably along the lines of it and its pal being such savages that feeling damp/drips might set them off and then the coat would last approximately 3 nanosecond!

She will occasionally tolerate a winter coat when it's end of world temperatures (prefer point blank to leave the house in less than ideal weather conditions ?) so perhaps the thinking was a cold set coat might work ??‍♀️

One is on it's way and will probably arrive in line with the temperature dropping back to the norm for Scotland!

What about the flexible gel packs which you freeze and then wrap round swollen wrist/ankles....you could create (oh no this means sewing) a tabard type thing with pockets into which gel packs could sit!? Maybe larger pocketed flexible wine bottle cooler packs!? I d be willing to bet BnM has something. Hope you find a timely solution cos you know this time last week we were high winds rain and 6 degrees!

I do have those gel packs in the horse first kit so that might be an option (minus the sewing!)

I thi k this nice weather has only to last until Wednesday and will no doubt need her thermals after that!!

I use this stuff to shade my car, very effective as it lets the air through. Keep thinking about one of their dog coats.

I've seen a few people use these at agility shows, seem to be quite effective. The car shades are great. I use a mesh cooling coat for the heeler but that is the sort you have to wet, stays cool for quite a while.
I agree dogs are crap at making the right choice, I've just had to bring one of the GSDs in , she was lying in the full sun, red hot to the touch. Back door is open with access to a nice cool kitchen, which I was sitting in so not as if she was out there to be with me !
