...as a 'loan swap' or 'loan for loan' type arrangement?

I really can't bear to sell my little 12HH lad but I don't have a rider for him anymore. Sadly, my little cousin, who has done two local shows this show season and got Gizmo looking extremely fit and well, is now too big for him. I have a 16.1HH but think he is too much for her as shes only 11 and we only have room to keep two horses. Think my little lad needs to go out on loan because he will be wasted just stood in a field - shes got him in an amazing condition and I'd love for him to carry on being worked. Trouble is, if he goes, she has nothing to ride so would be looking for something on loan.

So, I was thinking of a kind of loan swap, if there is such a thing?!We would be looking for something maybe 13-14hh that I could ride as well. I know its a very far fetched idea that someone would just swap one of theirs for mine, but to me it sounds ideal. Just wondered if anyone knows of this kind of arrangement or where it would be advertised? Just thoughts and ideas guys :) Thanks,Beck.

It would be easier to loan your one, then look for another suitable for you to loan.

Finding someone who wants your pony while having EXACTLY the loan pony you are looking for is a *very* tall order.

Thanks for quick reply! This is what I was thinking - Someone may have what we are looking for for loan, but not want Gizmo... Somebody told me to go to riding schools and see if they would be interested in this type of arrangement, have you heard of them doing this before?. As I said, was just fishing and being nosey to see if anyone has a loan for loan, or has heard anything about it before. :)

I saw an advert yesterday for a loan swap. Their pony is only 12.3 so wouldnt suit you but just goes tl show that the concept is viable

Reading your last post you may find a riding school with a bigger pony less suited to lessons but that could be an easy way for them to offload a problem pony while taking your lovely little pony and working him ragged so be careful!

Ahhh, so I am not insane, there is such a thing!!
Thanks for that, Welsh D, do you mind me asking what site it was on or where you saw the ad? xx

I think you could loan Gizmo out 50 times over even at this time of year - he sounds like a saint.

I think I would look for the best home possible for him as you would have choices and then go looking for a separate loan for your cousin, that way you have the best chance of getting what you all need. The only risk (which I'm sure you have already considered) is that if he came back unexpectedly, would you have room for him?

Yepp :)

My YO swapped her retired mare for a working gelding. The people she swapped with loved horses and had land, but didn't really ride, and YO had a riding school so it was perfect! Sadly, when YO moved away, the gelding went back, he was a real star!
