My friend is trying to sell her pony and her horse but at the moment hasn't had much response from any of her ads

They are both advertised on all the free ad websites and in the bargain pages. Their ads will also be up in the local tack shops from this weekend. She is going to mention them to her farrier next time he comes up.

They have a variety of pictures on their adverts to

I think the market has slowed down a bit

I don't know what the markets like at the moment but would say the time of year is good as we're coming into the better weather. Not much help I know. Hope it picks up for her.

Rainbowrider she is lovely.

My friends horses are both gorgeous, her gelding is on Horsemart (ref: HM804GHG7)

For 4k I would expect better photos to show her worth, that would be me off.

Oh don't say that! My mare's up for sale (come back from schooling with Binkybex), I've just put her on the Horse Exchange and she'll be going on HorseMart when I organise it. Also putting ads in local tack shops and feed merchants. . . . .

Good luck to all of us then!

The market seems to be very flat at the moment and a lot of people are having problems selling. Are the horses realistically priced?

ETA: Have looked at the big horse's ad and agree that the photos are not very inspiring! As they say he has showjumped successfully can they put up a photo of him competing? Usually there are event photographers at these events so worth checking the websites of the local ones to see if they have captured him in action.

Otherwise, you at least need to show a photo of him jumping a proper fence (preferably with fillers) under saddle.

I don't think many people have the readies available at the moment, interest rates are high, fuel prices are high, council tax going up, et, etc

While the market is uncertain luxury purchases (which horses are) are not going to sell as well. Have been told by numerous salesmen that car sales are down and businesses aren't spending mega bucks on anything.

Personally, I aslo think alot of horse are vastly overpriced.

Agree re pics on 2nd ad.

Must be! I have a lovely 16.2 5yo for sale at the moment, not even had a call. Just put her on horsemart again last night (HM805A2C2).

She is nice and has caught my eye in H&H, however I think she is overpriced and so that is why I personally wouldn't be interested. I am not saying she isn't worth that money to you BTW, just that she isn't to me (if you get my POV!)

I think the top 2 are good, I would look if I was looking, what surprises me is that they have had hardly any views for the amount of time they have been on.

I would consider a video for the 2 dressage horses.

The gelding has been succesful but there was no photographer there as it was a night sj event at the local RC

Unfortunately we don't have any show jumps (proper ones) to use, just home made ones.

Is it the horse is over-priced or the ad isn't showing the horses value?

Until you prove the horses value, it's over priced.

But I have seen 4 year olds that have hardly done anything for more than the £3950 that my friends horse is up for. Hes extremely safe to hack/ride and to handle so surely that should count for something

I understand and agree with what your saying, but 4k is alot for a horse.

I would take the ad off, re-take the photos showing him going nicely and someone riding him when jumping and put him back on

Is there not anywhere locally where you could hire a school and some jumps to take some more photos? Otherwise, improvise with what you have but you do really need to show him jumping under saddle and try and make the jump look relatively imposing - make it a spread at least.

What height was did he do his showjumping at?

Are the shots stills taken from a video, because they seem very blurry. See if you can find a friend with a decent camera who will come and take some good photos of him. I would also suggest that the rider should wear more conventional riding attire - you are drawn to the rider's clothing rather than looking at the horse at the moment!

I know it all sounds a lot of bother, but the extra effort can make the difference in pulling people in to view the horse.

Another point - is he good to hack alone and in company and good in traffic? Because it doesn't say so explicitly in the ad and that is an important factor for many people wanting a RC horse.

And this is why there are SO SO many over inflated prices out there....a person has a horse for sale, sees a similar horse ad and prices their horse the same or an incy bit more, and on it goes - it seems that hardly anyone actually prices their horses themselves anymore! Fact of the matter is, the advertised price and the price gained is seldom the same, I know of 5 horses in the past 3 months that were advertised in H&H and achieved an average of £3k UNDER the advertised price!!!

Funnily enough I have just found homes for 2 of ours (didn't want to really but time/finances dictated). I think they key must be price and where you advertise, I managed to home a 13hh speedy little monster with a history of laminitis within 48 hours of her ad giong up on the PC website, and a 13 year old ISH to go as a broodmare due to injury via H&H, however pony has gone on loan with view to buy and mare sold for just £1000, which is not much if she makes a sucessful broodmare but as yet she is unproven and we were more concerned about home than price. Had masses of interest in both, so maybe there is more interest at the lower end of the market at the moment?
Pont club website definately worth a shot though, although do be prepared for some seriously fussy mums and the spanish inquisition about the pony!

I just had a look at the dressage section on horsemart, and it's a pretty slow viewing section, I would either get a video up, or move to horsequest.

Seriously, you wouldn't believe some of them!! Advertised her as, and i quote 'ideal second pony or first pony for competant child'. One lady said 'can you guarantee she is 100% bombproof'. Well, no, she's a pony, of course I can't. Can you guarantee she doesn't buck? Again, she never has, but that doesn't mean she never will.
One family came to try her, spent 40 minutes in the school with her with terrified children (previous pony bucked them off daily). She's mega unfit (again, said that in advert) and after 20 mins trotting round in a shuffle with mum running next to her and child crying every time she moved her head, ponio was getting a bit sick of it, and walked towards the gate a few times. She also kicked at her belly twice (other horse being lunged in the school was doing the same, we've just had the first few flies about the place). After they left I actually phoned them and said sorry but looking for more competetive home for her. Found out yesterday they told a mutual aquaintance that the pony naps and tried to cow kick the child!

!
I do think some people are looking for that which doesn't exist - a pony that will go when told, stop when told, never put its head up or down, never buck, rear, bolt, shy, nap, kick at flies....oh, and is free (for loan!!)
Sorry. rant over. The next people who came were absolutely ideal, girl actually rode pony instead of being a petrified passenger and is going to have a great time with her!!

ETA To OP, agree with all about the photos. If I had £4k to spend I wouldn't look twice at that ad I'm afraid. Needs much better photos and possibly an idea of what he has won/what height? I paid less than that last year for a similar size/age horse, and she had a traceable competition record (eg qualified for trailblazers etc and other unaffiliated champs)

Sadly people do want the prefect pony for the prefect price (like you said, free)

I'm currently selling my daughters pony as she has out grown him now.
