Is this a Heavyweight or Lightweight Cob?

He's 15.1hh-ish. Don't know what other information one might need! Hope the picture is okay, it's the only one I could find that is side on... :)

Im not an expert but I would think a lightweight, he doesn't look to have enough bone to be a HW - I'm sure an expert will be along very soon to prove me wrong though lol
 
In showing terms, there is no such thing as a MW cob. They are LW or HW.
IMO this is a HW, the LWs are more quality (I mean no disrespect to HWs in saying this!) about the head and limbs and the HW tend to be more workmanlike, as is this one.

There is no such thing as a middleweight cob only light or heavy, he looks a heavyweight to me, measure his bone below his knee anything 9 inches or over is a heavyweight if you go by show cob rules, look on the BSPA web site at types if he is over a certain size they would class him as a sumo cob, I have a cob with an 11 inch bone he's a sumo. Although people are saying MW, in the 'showing' world there aren't classes for mw's, just LW and HW which are based on bone measurements. Therefore if you wanted to affiliate for showing he would likely be classed as a LW, but for local shows all weights are normally shown together.

This is for a County Show. I have the choice as it were of Lightweight or Heavyweight, but all it says is horses within a certain height range (and it's the same for both classes) but the Lightweight class is to be able to take up to 14 stone, whereas the Heavyweight class is over 14 stone. There is a Maxi Cob class, but that is well over this lad's height.
 
For County he is def a LW, as others have said he is not really stocky enough - he has a nice 'athletic' shape which is suited to LW. After your class you should see the heavyweight cobs - you will see the size & shape difference!

p.s....check the schedule for the County show - i think you should have a go at working cobs too.....
 
If this is for a County SHow, are the classes you want to enter affiliated to the BSHA (British Show Horse Association)?
If so, both horse and rider need to be members of BSHA and the cob will need a JMB height certificate, unless you ae showing on a Day Ticket?

I didn't see a Working Cob class, but will look for them at other County Shows - we're going to spend so much on gear that we might as well get more use out of it all lol.

so behind, but this came up on my google search :P have to say he is a gorgeous cob! what have you been doing with him? hopefully bringing mine out as a lightweight next year or year after, really love yours, beautiful :)
