Is this a naughty thing to do (vet)???

This is one of the most random posts I have read for a while.

3 more questions for you:

1. Have you asked your YO why they didn't think to call you up when the vet initially phoned to say they were expecting your horse in. What was their response?
2. Have you called vet to ask why they did not call you regarding your horse, and obtaining permission. What was their response?
3. When you learned your horse was at the hospital you asked when they were going to operate - you said the response was 'Friday' so presumably at this point in time you could have stopped things.

TBH it just sounds like a general c*ck up all round, and from all parties involved, but friend or not I would be having a 'chat' with my YO - how dare they arrange a transporter and send your horse off without confirming with you first!

Exactly what I was going to say.

As far as the vet is concerned, if somebody delivered the horse, then they must have wanted the op done.
The fact that it was the YO who sent the horse, not the owner, IMO, absolves the vet from blame, and the blame has to rest with the YO.

Wench, be honest, if you had been given time to think about it, would you have had the op done?
 
jeeeeeeez... chill peeps!

OP - i hope your horse is okay. personally i think it sounds like a bit of crossed-wires-syndrome... but, instead of everyone looking for someone to blame... think of the positives.

your horse has had the op, insurance will pay, soon he'll be all fixed, and this will be a distant memory.

No way should that have happened without your consent. Both the vet and yard owner are at fault and maybe the yard owner would like to pay the bill.
What was the operation for (was it essential?) or don't you want to say.
 
Christine48- read one of the first few pages- it explains what the operation was for there.

OP- people are reacting the way they are because your answers are a bit vague (ie "as far as I know....."). I would have spoken to the YO and vet to find out exactly where the wires were crossed. You also say something to the effect that (read it at lunch time and can't be bothered going back all the way to quote properly) you aren't 100% sure if you said you'd think about it? If you agreed then you can't complain about giving consent? The vet should have phoned you yes but are you 100% sure that they didn't try to ring you first (for example you might have to have dialled 1471 from work or home phone or your mobile was engaged or had no signal)?
 
OMG is this some sort of joke??? I have Never heard of a vet calling YO to ask where horse is - They would almost cirtainly have booked a definate day and time with you before expecting your horse in.... I do not know of any YO in the world that would have not known horse is due in for op and just get a call from vet so arrange travel themselves...What a lolad of rubbish. I have just missed half of eastenders to read this tosh... I am assuming that the horse is fine and recovering well - MOST people on here would have let us know this at page 1 rather than 10....
I seriously hope that you are a bit more aware of what is going on with your horse on a day to day basis. You really don't seem that mad about it ..

Unless of course it's just a made up post to get a bit of a row going - In which case, you haven't actually succeded...All you've managed to do is make people think you're a bit on the strange side for not being too bothered about it!!

I have never been asked to sign anything with a sedation or anasaetic (sp) so I'm not sure that is standard practice but it still sounds out of order for the vet to take your horse in without your express permission. I would refuse to pay the bill!
