My TB has got to go and have his back 2 teeth get sliced in half at veterinary clinic as my dentist said that his mouth is too small and they will start digging in to his cheeks i was wondering if this was a common procedure?

I think he ment like sliced diagnolly across

I would definitely ask your vet. If anything does need to be done, it should be able to be done at home. My big horse recently had a tooth out - the vet and the dentist she works with did this at home. Unfortunately, my horses have been the victims of a bad EDT in the past and I only have my vet and a dentist she recommends look at their teeth now.

Does the dentist mean that your horse has hooks at the back that are so long that he cant get power tools in? This can occasionally happen and they then need cutting to shorten the hook. However would probably get vet to check first.

I hope he didnt have to have his teeth cut with molar cutters. Hardly anyone uses these as they are v dangerous, likely to fracture the teeth and almost certainly expose pulp/nerve endings.

How small is the pony? With sedation I have never had a pony too small to reduce 11s (back teeth) by power

i never have heard of this i know my mare mare had horrible long sharp pointy teeth when i first got her but my dentist powered tooled her then finished off with a normal rasp!

he is a 16hh TB, not sure what he was getting at TBH but he said when he turned 6 he would have to have it done because his teeth would start digging into his cheeks.
The dentist i use doesn't use power tools so could that be the reason?

Dear god who is this guy?! why when he turned 6?!

Where in Wales are you? I think you need a second opinion. If he doenst use power then no he wouldnt be able to do any advanced dentistry. Just tooth rubbing

Please dont send your horse where molar cutters would be used. 16HH tb would have plenty of room - I have done large reductions on back teeth of shetlands and managed!

Justin Pugh and Geraint Hughes are v good
