I've had my youngster for almost 2 yrs! hes going away in March to be backed! we've had a lot of ups and downs, including a lot of rearing over the last 2 yrs! so now im starting to find the thought of "im going to be riding him soon" really really weird!

I don't think I'm scared but I'm a little nervous I guess, he's a baby, surely he can't be ridden? Also doesn't help that I've not ridden for a year because of issues with my mare, so think I might try and find a horsey to ride for months!

does anyone else feel like this when they get their youngsters backed?

Hi, mine is 2.5 yrs and I dont quite believe that I'll be riding her next year (towards end of year, lightly)! She is quite hot too and has done her fair share of rears and acrobatics, but that has calmed down now but it's always in your mind isn't it what they have done in the past! I have just got a lovely horse on share to keep up my riding and I'm feeling much more confident now. I can't imagine not riding for a year and then expecting to hop on and give a youngster confidence. I'm going to back and will be starting mine at home with the help of an instructor. I rationalise it as most youngsters rear or get silly as they are immature and unsure, as long as things are gradual and done properly its unlikely they'll do it undersaddle, it's different with a rider's weight on anyway and they'll have enough to think about just balancing themselves. I'm going to have regular lessons right from the start to make sure we don't run into any probs. Enjoy, its very exciting isn't it!

I'm in the same position with my boy...he'll be coming up for 4 years next spring when he is started...Im really excited and scared witless at the same time :o
He is quite sharp on occasion so will be an interesting ride I'm sure lol. I think the thing making me most nervous is actually sending him off to "school" :(
