Or am I pushing the boat abit ? lol

As Tiarnan is too old to do lead rein at balmoral this year ( 16th may ) .... I may be able to steal my neice whos just turning 5 in april and is such a sweet little thing, shes so tiny lol bless her, Cormacs ( whos 3 ) joddy boots will fit her, even his wee jacket Im planning on getting him will fit .

Now heres the thing, shes never rode a pony before , apart from this evening , shes been at me for several weeks if she could come out and ride tommy , So she got on great and showed great interest , So is it possible to teach a near 5 year old to trot and basically be capable of doing the lead rein class ? ?

Balmoral is on the 16th march

??

forgive me if im wrong but all they have to do is rising trot and look pretty? they dont actualy "ride"?

go for it, she'd have to ride at least once each day though, pref 2x 30mins.

Possible yes - but sure as you know every kid is different and while with a small few kids it may be enough time, for the vast majority Id say it may just be too soon. You might risk her losing the will to ride especially if she didnt have confidence straight off. Maybe ease her into it over the next week (inc a few small trots with someone holding her and another person holding Tommy) and take it from there?

We tried doing a simalar thing the kid fell off. In my limited experience the children who can ride well off the ledrein do better in leadrein classes than genuine leadrein children for showing. I remember doing leadrein showing and open SJ at the same show!

Oh she has tonnes of confidence and we did try a wee trot towards the end , just to see if it would scare her or if she found it "ok" ... and she was laughing her head off bless her .

If she never rides again , well thats good enough for her mum, shes never really had a chance to be around horses if it wherent for me , as my sister isnt into horses and she has 3 other kids as it is , so would never have the time .

She (lauren) has been supposedly talking steady of this competition that shes going to do bless her .

Will post a few photos and a video tomorrow , We can give it a go and if shes not ready well then shes not ready , no harm done .
