Following on from another post about sarcoids, the link in this post is a picture from google and it is shockingly identical to one on my mare. it is on her groin area and not very close to her teats and is closer to her bellybutton, id say about 5 or 5 inches above it on the part on her that doest get hair on it appart from some in winter. My mare has had it since before i got her, she wasnt vetted and is looks exactly he same as when i got her. It is the only one on her and she doesnt have any like that or any or the warty looking ones. I have had her for 2 years so its quite a while.. it is quite large (same as pic) im actually surprised as to how similar it is! Im just wandering, my vet is coming to see my mare on friday to check how her pulled tendon has healed with a scan, should i mention it to him? or is it best left well alone?

thankyou :D

No link/pic? There are about 5 threads on this in this section and in Veterinary. I figure you should always get a vet to check any dodgy lumps.:):)

Defo looks like a sracoid. Depends where it is if you wanna treat it: some are best left well alone and if you mention it, you have to tell your insurance and risk exclusion on it. TBH< Liverpool cream nad full treatment for my lad was under £200.

you could mention it but I would say its very much left alone esp if near the sensitive belly button area.

My horse had a small bump on this steath like the one in the pic (just smaller) when I got him and we where advised to leave it alone, just monitor it for changed which we did.
After three years it began to grow and break out (breaking the skin) and changed - this resulted in him having to be refered to liverpool and get chemo, which then caused the sacriod to fall off and its never returned. He did however develop a tidy little bump by his belly button - this was recomended to be monitored too and not treated.... over time its disappeared! I think with this kind of sacroid, which looks the same as the one my boy had at first, its best to point out to vet and to monitor its developement. if it hasnt grown and/or turn into this kind of sacriod (http://www.liv.ac.uk/sarcoids/images/appearance6.jpg) then I think its best left alone as its clearly not bothering your horse. I would point it out to the vet as sometimes its not always a sacroid so worth getting it check just to be sure and get peace of mind.

Probably a sarcoid. My cob developed them when he was 2 and I used Echinacea from D&H
regularly, as it is anti just about everything! I read up a lot about sarcoids and decided this was the best course of action as I did not fancy the Liverpool cream that my vet prescribed. The result of my tale is that the sarcoids just vanished over a couple of months and have not come back....even the vet was impressed! I recommended this to another lady whose mare had just developed one by the girth, and she also had a full recovery. I have tried to let various folk know about this, but the companies just don't want to listen. It is only £20 a pot and worth a go. Let me know how it goes for you, if you decided to try. I keep my lad on it permanently now and it stops all the nasty virus's around too!

My horse used to have a lot of them but they seem to become managable recently none of them have opened the only bad one he had was on his eye. He has lumps like this around his sheath so I would defo say its sarcoids if its not bothering her I would leave it. They only tend to open when the flies are bad or if they catch them which she isnt likley to do there.

If it is causing NO problems then leave it alone and personally I wouldn't get the vet to look at it.

If it does cause problems down the line and need treatment you may well find insurance wont cover it if the vet has previously examined it.
