Havnt got a picture of it. And after nearly a year of owning her ive NEVER noticed it.

Buts its roughly where the red circle is ..

Can it be caused by vaccs? As she had a bad reaction her her injection a few weeks ago.

And isnt only meant to occur in arabs, and thoroughbreds :\ ??

not sure as I cannot see it? A thumb mark looks just like a thumb mark? Had one on my arab cross.

Thats what i mean, it litterally appeared yesterday out of the blue :p

So i dont have a pic but thats where it is on her neck :)

And im 100% sure if it was there on sunday i would have seen it as i groom her thoroughly everyday Lol.

Also shes a welsh a. Although she acts like a arab ;)

I can't see it very well, but have trawled through pics and found a photo that kinda shows Genie's prophet's thumb mark. It's the little line on her neck level with her nostrils.

See it does look like that, im just baffled as to why ive never seen/noticed it before ..

And why its not in that picture (taken a week ago) because the red line is exactly where it is :o

When she galloped off just before she noticed it she dropped a shoulder (is lame on it now) and pulled her head up very fast, maybe shes damaged a muscle? :o :(

Horses are born with prophets thumb marks. My horses one is deeply indented in her neck, you really can fit your whole thumb in it. It shouldn't be making your horse lame. Not to be a prophet of doom but if it has only recently appeared and is making your horse lame I would get the vet out as it could be something else.
The prophets thumb mark is an indentation in a muscle, usually in the horses neck but sometimes in their chest also. It looks just as if someone has pressed a thumb into the muscle and left a dent. Legend has it that the Prophet Mohammed blessed the foundation mares of the Arab breed by placing his hand on their necks. The mark of his blessing is said to be passed onto their best offspring. Generation after Generation.

Could it be that you can't see it in that photo because her head is flexed in the other direction, pulling the skin more taught and making it less pronounced?

I think if she had damaged her neck badly enough to seperate the muscle like that you would know about it because she would be in some serious pain!

I dont think the OP is a Thumb print - I would be worried about it appearing suddenly combined with the lameness, maybe a muscle pulling wrong because of weakness or something (im no vet!)

- My girl has one that you could fit a rather large grape into - Its been there since i got her. The other two photos show real Prophet marks.

Oh - She is Cleveland Bay (They have some Arab somewhere back in ancient times in their blood apparently! - Could have fooled me!)

Actually - its funny mine is on the Left side too - are they always that way??

Anyone got a Right hand sided one???

My mum's Connie X has one on the right?!

He is out of a Connemara Show Pony mare by a Welton Stallion - awesome little horse!

Good shout about the best having them - this little horse evented to BE Novice level and SJ to BS Newcomers before becoming my mums hack.

My thumb fits it perfectly.

No, its not a prophets thumb mark :)

I could just be something that has hit her and left a bit of damage :)

But prophets thumb mark dosent make a horse lame; it is usually the sign of a good horse!

Doesn't look like one to me, they are usually born with them too.
Strangely enough my arab mare has one on her bottom!

Sorry not a good pic, but it's just to the left of her tail!

Sign of a good horse?....well she can be a good horse when SHE wants to be :)

Both of my horses have one :o :p Bit random really! And they're both the sorts of horses that will be sticking around for good I think, considering one was my 1st pony! So maybe it's a sign?! xD

My Shetland has one. And I very very very much doubt there is an ounce of thoroughbred or arab in him, not in recent times anyway! Have traced the pedigree back to 1800's and allllll shetlands! His is also on the left and is a very snuggly place for my thumb to fit. He is a very special man and has an exceptional jump for a shetland though - maybe he's a one off :P
