Also known as ascarids, and yes, horses get them. You can do faecal worm egg counts for roundworm rather than worming every time as they do build up resistance to some types of anthelmintic but yes you would worm horses to treat for roundworm.A roundworm as in something I need to worm for…? It didn’t have segments. It looked like an earthworm. Dead.
Although you have wormed for tapeworm, most likely the wormer you gave will kill roundworm as well which is what you have seen. Have a look at the product you used and see if it is effective against roundworm also. Westgate labs is very good for advice so you can contact them to see if you need to bring forward a wec. That's why I thought they might be tapeworm...because they came out after I'd wormed for tapeworm.
I agree, it just doesn't look like an earthworm (I love earthworms). I think it came from your horse, OP. It might be icchhy but it's good to have a picture of it.Nope, agree ascarid of some sort too pointy to be an earthworm
A foot longLooks like an ascarid to me. Tape worms come out in segments.
I once bought a young mare off the hills and wormed her and dozens of ascarids came out. A horrible mass of them , some a foot long. They were tougher and whiter than earthworms.
Yuck, didn't take pics, fortunately. Would have put you off your tea.A foot longwhat a revolting sight. 'Tougher and whiter than earthworms' sounds both revolting and accurate. Should have taken a photo, Gloi
