Is this an Anatomic Girth?

I've been looking for an anatomic girth for a pony with forward girth groove. I've trawled the old threads but can't seem to find a girth under about £100?? Not sure why a bit of a curve in the girth means you can charge so much more....

However, I HAVE found the Tekna Anatomic Girth: http://www.teknasaddlery.com/products.asp?Pname=TeknaGirths&Ptype=1&pageID=2

Does anybody know if this is a 'real' anatomic girth ie for forward girth grooves, or if it just provides elbow room?

Thanks!

If you are happy to pay £90 have a look at the Prolite girth which are effectively synthetic Fairfax girths. They are really good and work well with a forward girth groove.

Thanks all! It's a long girth I'm after and around £90 is just too much for me to spend on a girth...

But that's really useful about the Harry Dabbs one. In all my searching I hadn't seen that and it looks great, just what I'm after - and thanks for the photo of it in use.

I think about all of the ones I've seen (and the Dabbs) are elasticated both ends which worries me a bit on my (slightly...!) roly-poly cob. But I'm happy to give it a go at £35!!

Thank you all - PS: still interested in the Tekna as a fallback if anybody knows about it?

The elastic is triple, and the way it is spread over both halves it isn't very stretchy if that makes sense.

I did end up going up a size as the aerborn I was replacing had a longer flap of waffle under the elastic up to the buckles and with him and 'edge' like that is just the thing to rub but the one size bigger means the join sits well up on numnah/saddle when tightened.

Honestly I wish I had had it years ago, it sits a lot better than his usual waffle one. I tried a leather one years ago when they first started doing them but it made him bleed on the one short hack I used it, he just doesn't seem to get on with leather!

I have one of the other tekna style girth and it's brilliant. I love the tekna tack really hard wearing and looks good too.
Not sure which of the girths you are looking at as link showed all the different styles.

Someone on Facebook is selling a gorgeous 43 inch leather forward girth that they had custom made if anyone is looking for one (not mine)

Hi Ester! Can I ask... I bought the girth and it just arrived. I happily popped it on the fellow today but it didn't go to plan. The saddle and girth both slipped forward really really quickly and it seemed to pinch his hairs/skin more than his usual girth - he kept turning his head round and trying to bite it! It started out in approx the same position yours is in the photo and ended up jammed against his elbows. Is there some way of doing it up that I'm getting wrong? I am almost totally sure I have it the right way round. Please help!

Thanks so much for your help. Yes, that's how I have it (I was examining your photo!). I was wondering if it's maybe because it's quite a wide girth and my boy is only 13.3hh? It looks a lot bigger on him than in your photo, could I ask what height yours is?

he's 14.2

I don't know if it helps but it is on him in these two too

I have it.

Nice girth, but they seem to be measured from end to end, rather than buckle to buckle, so was a bit longer than I was expecting! The only thing I don't like is that it doesn't have individual loops for the billets. Other than that, I really like it.

Wow - he is absolutely gorgeous! I love the cocky photo, but so he should be, he's a very handsome chap!

Quite a similar build to my boy but mine is a bit of a miniature version! It just seems to take up a lot more space on my boy's belly than on yours, so just maybe could be an issue...

Definitely (I think!) it is simply too wide for his chest, it looks as though it's better suited to a slightly bigger pony/horse.

SO - if anybody would like to buy an only used twice Harry Dabbs 48" girth then do let me know, else it's onto ebay!

Search continues....

I have a Tekna girth, the same as yours. It is an anatomic girth and they are great - but you have it on the wrong way round. The curve must face the front, not the back. Turn it around and try it again. x
