I have my 5 year old for sale atm and have had interest but nothing to say she's going anywhere just yet... So if I don't sell her in the next few weeks I'm thinking maybe I could find someone that would want to B.E her... She's rising 5 v well bred, moves beautifully ( dressage pro thinks she'll go advanced till the cows come home with an amature on board ) and showjumps very well, very neat and careful, makes super shape etc, jumping 1.10 courses at home, discoveries at shows... She's been xc training and jumped straight round everything... She's an angel to do in all ways etc etc.

She's my hombred baby and I'm only selling her as 1) I need to pay her mums vet bills - cancer diagnosed... And 2) I can't afford to get her out to shows and don't have time with a baby...
Do you think someone would be interested in BE-ing her on the condition that they take over her costs?? Almost like a full loan but to stay at home with me and I will do days they can't make it... This may sound harsh, but I don't want just anyone riding her ... It has to be a competent pilot who can produce a young horse properly... Then next spring ( or whenever really ) I will advertise her again with a percentage of her price going to her 'loaner'

Would someone be interested in this sort of arrangment do you think??

All ideas welcomed...

Hmmm...... difficult position to be in. Speaking from my own experience I definitely know pro riders who will "roll up" costs and take those plus a percentage out of any sale proceeds so that may be an option. There are a couple of difficulties though - what happens if, god forbid, the horse gets injured and cannot be sold within the projected timeframe? The rider will be taking the risk of the costs they have incurred may not be paid back and so, if they are willing to take that risk, they may demand a bigger percentage of sale proceeds to compensate them? Also, whilst i quite understand why, you may have difficulties with asking that the horse has to be kept with you. I don't know your area but again the riders i know that have done this have kept the horses at their own yards as it is simply more cost efficient for them to do so. Sorry - don't want to be doom and gloom here - maybe you find a particularly "hungry for rides" young pro who is willing to take the risk....or equally get a thorough inspection of the pro's yard such that you are happy for her to live with them? Good luck!

I think, if you had a water tight and well worded contract, it could be a workable arrangement.
Obviously any winnings etc would go to the rider/'loaner'?
Might be worth looking for a good young rider without a string as yet?? x

I dont see why not but the only problems i can see you facing is 1- keeping her at your yard so the person will have to be local 2- All costs to be covered by them? I think someone is more likely to go for 1/2 and 1/2! and 3- finding someone who fits all criteria and is also trustworthy and capable. Good luck on your hunt though she sounds like a dream x

Hmmm, thanks for replies... Was thinking rather than a pro, someone that perhaps hasn't got a spare 8-10k to buy a competition horse but can pay up keep... I guess I would let her leave my place, but only to someone I could really trust ( maybe after a few weeks trial for both parties at my place ) .... I'm based near Ashford, Kent J9 of M20!! Have transport and am happy to drive her to shows etc...

That is definately an option.
It will give her a competition record, get her out and about and seen by people and will make her more lucrative to potential buyers :)

I think this would be a wonderful opportunity for an up and coming rider , especially as she's been bred by you , so you'll be on hand for any sticky moments , some youngster will jump at the chance of being able to compete on a quality horse that they probably could only dream of buying , if your lucky they might even start to save their pennies for the inevitable sale date? At least you'll get her out there , you never know , you may take over the reins again as baby grows up!

Paddy - unfortunatly I won't be able to get my reins back ... Was in a rta in 06 and won't ride again ... Otherwise there is no way she'd be going anywhere... She's my perfect horse!! :( xx

BEUndertheinfluence was posting earlier about how she is in a very unsatisfactory loan arrangement of a BE horse. Maybe she could help you out if you are in same part of world as she may well be giving up her arrangement????

This sounds like a crackin' opportunity for someone! Shame you're not nearer to me, a friend of mine is looking for exactly this. She doesnt have time to 'do' a horse 7 days a week and paying 8- 10k for something for her to event isnt an option either so she's looking for someone to let her compete their horse, she's even offered to pay a monthly fee as well as the livery/maintenance and competition fees, in her advert - So people are definately out there.

I can see that being quite appealing to people. I would love an opportunity like that (although clearly not talented enough) so I don't see why other people wouldn't. As long as you have a contract and both parties know where they stand I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Oh shame she cant move yards.....I know a lovely young girl who is looking for just this as her own BE horse is off with an injury...but she is looking to take it onto her current yard on Essex / Suffolk borders...she could def supply refs, is prepared to take on all costs, has lorry sitting doing nothing! etc....just thought I would throw this into the mix for you.:D

Good luck with your search.
