My saddler (who is excellent and very highly recommended and I love him as a saddler - he is brilliant) has said that if a saddle is fitted properly to the horse, putting a sheepskin numnah under it doesn't make the saddle any tighter - it just lifts it!!

I still can't get my head around this? I always wanted a lovely lambskin numnah but still think it would make the saddle tight?? Surely, the saddle should be fitted with sheepskin numnah under it at the time?

I believe that it would be a bit like putting three pairs of socks on and making your shoes tight!! :)

I'm sure it was Kay Humphries I heard say this at a talk sometime ago.
 
mine would not agree, ours have always been fitted with the sheepskin numnahs we use.... some are thinner than others though.
 
When we had our saddle fitted we were asked if the daughter intended to use a sheepskin pad & then she fitted it with the pad in place xx
