is this criminal damage ?

A horse on the injections need not necessarily have his feathers removed, the injection should treat without the need for topical applications.

No no , don't bring her horses into it, it's not their fault they're owned by a crazy woman so to suggest depriving them of a mane is shocking

Agree, no need to bring retribution on her poor horses - they weren't the ones with the scissors! Sorry about your friend's horse OP, I'd move as quickly as possible without any fuss. If she can do that, no telling what other ideas might pop into her head

thanks everyone

some great idea's ;)
to whoever it was that asked if the horse had mites , yes he did LAST YEAR and he has had the injections regularly ever since so as to keep them under control

YO hacked them off because she thought he had "lice" anyway so she doesn't even have a clue that it would have actually been feather mites that would have caused a problem
YO is a nutty control freak and just thinks she can do whatever she likes with someone's horse without consent and in my opinion is bang out of order to even get someone else's horse out of the field without a good reason let alone take the scissors to him

I would actually most likely butcher her horses mane/feathers in return to see how she likes it, and if she said anything I'd play the "Oh, I thought that he had mites" card. And then leave without paying any bills and leaving as much mess and inconvenience in my wake as possible!

Ha! Love this! Best revenge ever!

Find a new yard. The night I leave, I would hog each of her horses manes and shave a stripe out of the tops of their tails.
I'd then leave a note saying 'you're horses had lice, but don't worry, I've sorted them. Knew you wouldn't mind. All the best.'
Then I would delete her number, ignore all further contact and feel slightly better.

I would actually do this too....!

:D

Seriously get your friend to do this, I bloody would!

I would be inclined to send photos to the local paper of the horse in full hair at a show and the hacked off hair pics and say this happened at xxxx so please be vigilant as vandals are about.

Oh & leave ASAP.

Also an idea, if your friend chooses to go down the calmer, more 'mature' route :)

The horses won't know or mind, I don't think that they will be too conscious about the fact that they are hogged or have half-haired tails, they'll be fine!

Maybe then she'll think twice before hacking away at other people's horses!

Oh and if I saw her hacking back on her horse with my saddle she would have 5 seconds to get off and hand it over before I dragged her off, seriously if I ever moved onto this woman's yard then by the sounds of her one of us would end up in hospital and the other in prison!!

I can understand why your friend is upset OP!

But I really hope she doesn't hack away at te YO's Horse in return, 2 wrongs don't make a right.

If I were your friend, I would leave before the YO gets back from holiday. When she asks for notice payment/outstanding payment, tell her to jog on.

It looks bad but if the legs are washed and the hair feathered in carefully it will not look good as new but it will look neater. We have a light weight hairy cob type which we show plaited but do not clip the legs, we feather and blend the hair the full length of the leg , like you would do humane hair, it takes time but it gives a natural look and not scalped.

I would be fuming if anybody done something like that and they would know aboutit and i would def move if could but dont think you could sue.

Having 4 heavily feathered Shires, I would be apoplectic if someone had hacked off any of their feather. This past winter, one of my mares developed an infection under the feather of all 4 legs. She has been on regular treatment with Dectomax, has oil (but NOT sulphur, as she reacts badly to it) rubbed into her feather, is on cardboard bedding to reduce the chance of more mites (as are all my Shires), and still chewed and rubbed and stamped because of her discomfort. As a last resort, we shaved all 4 legs (it took quite a bit of convincing from the vet that it should be done). That was the only way we could get to the source of her problem. She had antibiotic cream rubbed into the infected areas twice a day (picking off the scabs is the WORST possible action in the circumstances). There could be no denying that my mare had a problem because her feather was blood-tinged and chewed. The difference between treating her with and without hair was astonishing.

Looking at the remnants of feather on the OP's friend's horse, it is clear he has no mites or he has no reaction to them (so how could the YO determine if, indeed, he had mites?). The actions of the YO look to be more vindictive than curative. I'd be out of there before she could say M I T E S! The hacked off areas of feather should be blended with a thinning shears or straight-edge and comb (as a hair dresser that would be something very familiar to the OP). It will take quite a while to grow back, but, seeing as the horse has such a heavy coat, it will fill in sooner than expected. As much as I'd like to sue for criminal damage, I probably wouldn't...not worth the time or money.

Can't quote as on phone but Lilly dolly you are wrong , of course the horses will no and will mind if their natural defences are removed. I would never ever take revenge on an animal. Didn't mind the thread a while back where someone put purple spray in a fly spray bottle to catch a thief but not taking scissors to someone's horse!

If it wasn't utterly irresponsible and a stupid dangerous idea, I'd suggest putting veet in the owner's (own, not horse) shampoo. :D

I'd be levitating with rage if someone did that to my horse . . . however, I wouldn't be exacting revenge, I would simply move - pronto.

Honestly, my mind boggles that YOs feel that they can take scissors, clippers, whatever to someone else's horse without consultation . . . whether they are on full/schooling/working/part/assisted or DIY livery :eek::eek::eek:

A friend of mine told me that when she kept her (dressage/competition) horse on part livery, a well-meaning groom trimmed her TB's tail b/c it was looking scraggly . . . said friend doesn't brush her horse's tail very often - because it is indeed a little sparse and she doesn't want to break off the hairs and thin it any more than necessary . . . imagine her horror to find it all neatened up . . . at hock length

If anyone even groomed Kal without my permission, I'd be cross (we're on DIY livery). When we were on full livery, the YM always asked me before she clipped him/pulled his mane/trimmed his tail.

Sigh.

No idea about the original title question but I would be absolutely spitting fire!!!!!! Rude and damn right out of place beyond words.

Nothing can do about it now, but I would still be raging over it if it was baby coblet.

Not sure what you would get out of hacking some one elses Horses mane/tail to bits  not really revenge. I would also feel sorry for the Horse as they will need a long tail or mane to protect them agains't flies. Not the Horses fault its owner is a numpty. Take it out on the owner, by leaving and not paying. Thats worse revenge then childish behaviour by cutting their innocent Horses hair.

how about offer to shave her head as you think she has nits!?

then when she declines and looks all offensive say "yep....id be offended too...which is why you dont touch my effing horse...."......

job done ;)

Rubbish, two wrongs CAN make a right, and this scenario is a prime example.

I think it's a really bad idea to take revenge on the YO in this case. She sounds like a proper nutter... I hate to think what she'd come up with in return.

Plus, it's not fair on the horses to leave then without hair in the middle of summer when all the files are about.

Leave without paying, then post her name along with the photos on facebook.:D

I'd just leave, quickly, to anywhere and then find a better yard later if needed- it cant be worse than a yard where your horse is hacked! why would you do that?! has your friend made her feelings known?
