Is this fair- selling my horse and pulling out of sale-opinions please

I have a lovely 15.3 tb x trahener mare for sale for sale who has been very sucessful in the dressage arena.This is the advert:

I advertised her under dressage horses on horsemart and had a girl come to try her on Tuesday.She girl was a teenager who rode her ok(ish)and look safe enough and capable of learning to ride her. They really liked her and jumped her and saw her jump some xc fences. They then bought the instructor to see her last night. My friend showed her and the mare went well and then the girl rode her apon which the instructor commented that the girl(novice) rode her better than myself and my friend as we 'ruined her natural paces!'She then got the girl to gallop her round the arena on a buckle and the mare almost fell over!She then wanted to see her jump so my friend got back on and she made her jump my horse(who is stated is green with her jumping in the ad) to jump her just holding the buckle of the reins!Fortunatley my mare is genuine but she is still learning and this could have really upset her.
After the riding she then stated that as they were intrested in her then I need to leave her rugs off at night(she is fully clipped) as when they buy her she will have to live out in the field 24/7 and that she hoped she was good to handle(which she is with me but she is a TB and a competition horse) as the girl who wants her as never had a horse before and she was going to totally alone to look after her! She then insisted I left the cribbing collar off which I did and the mare went to crib and she hit her!
I have decided to call the girls mother(who was not there at the time) and inform them that I am not prepared to let my fit, clipped, dressage horse go to a novice teenager with no back up to freeze in the field. Am I being unreasonable- I can just see it going very badly wrong either for the horse, the child or both.
 
How bloody rediculous!
I would not be letting my horse go to them either!!
Just hold out, someone that is right will come along!
However the bit about her making a young rider horse, "Young Rider" horses must be at PSG. And in your add it does say she'l live out.
But she looks nice, shame she's not a bit bigger!

How dare they treat your horse like that, and how dare they insuniate that you know nothing about horses and that they no better? ( they clearly know nothing !)
 
Think I am going to readvertise with some jumping pictures as well as she has really taken to it as is so careful. I am having really bad luck! The last person who came to see her and tried her in everyway pos and stated she was her 'dream horse' pulled out 2hrs before the vetting!!! Think I attracted nutters!
 
To be honest I would have stopped them there and then when they were making their demands. She's your horse and they have no right whatsoever to do that.
 
poor horse. i wouldnt dare let the girl take the hores. you need to be sure the horse is going to be looked after properly IMO
 
Have you agreed to sell her to these people? If not no way would I sell her to them based on what you've said in your post, they sound clueless tbh. If you've agreed a sale even verbally it's more difficult, but as long as no money has changed hands and they haven't paid for a vetting then I would just say sorry but you've changed your mind.
How much interest have you had and how desperate are you to sell her?!
 
You have done the right thing, they obviously haven't a clue....
I too have turned people down if I decided they would ruin a good horse, we once sold one to someone who parelli'ed it for three months before attempting to get back on it in the middle of it's five acre field (it had been broken six weeks when they bought it and was going beautifully) it dumped them and they continued to try and train him, he never got over it and from that day on I vet purchasers, if I feel they aren't experienced enough (former woman said she evented) I just say no.
Stand your ground, they would ruin your horse..

Edited to say just seen your advert, far too nice a horse to go to muppets...

Definately advertise her as a potential eventer/allrounder as well. Being Trakehner the eventing crowd would love her.. ( I would too, she has similar bloodlines to the bay in my avatar, who was a fab eventer, he was half trakehner and a grandson of Roland/Goddington Hannibal)
 
I have only advertised her on horsemart at the moment. I haven't agreed to let them have her, they wanted to hack her out first. They told me that they wanted her for pony club the the instructor said that the girl wouldn't really want to compete her as she was too much of a nervous rider!!! For goodness sake- buy a cob!
I feel sorry for the kid- shes not a bad rider and she was nice, but I have been scared off!
 
DofftheDerby- I will do, we have been jumping her for 6 weeks now and she hasn't had a single fence down, she was a little 'looky' to start with but this has gone. We took her xc for the first time at the weekend and she didn't hesistate at anything, she is very straightforward but not for an unknowledgable, nervous teenager!
 
Ooh she does sound fab!! Very brave... am sure she will sell.

I've got my chestnut advertised on horsemart as well, the one thing that I will say about horsemart is that it seems to attract all the muppets that know eff all about horses. Have had lots of muppets from horsemart coming to see my chestnut and I would rather die than sell my horse to them!
But as soon as I advertised him on Horsequest I had some really lovely and experienced people coming to look at him.

Seems wierd how the two sites attract different types of people but this is what seems to be happening!
 
Get rid of these people. When it all goes wrong (which it will) they will then take you to court to get their money back and they will win. Sell to someone who will appreciate your horse. These people are complete k**bs.

oh oh oh, me too!! Well, I have a Roland son.......am deliberating not looking at the advert because I know I'll want her!
 
I wouldn't sell to them - I know it must be hard especially if you are under financial pressure to sell (not that I am suggesting that you are I just mean generally!!!!) but I believe (Maybe a little niavely) that everything happens for a reason and it will work out and someone great will come along.

If she was 16.2 I wouldn't be selling as she is great but I just feel to big on her although people say I don't look big!
 
Oh dear, looked in the advert......she's lovely and I want her!

Incidentally, everyone I've ever spoken to with Roland/Hannibal horses, has mentioned stable vices. Very very common in Roland stock - mine used to crib bite a lot at old yard - is much happier now so doesn't do it, but he's got that element to him.
 
That's really interesting, I am selling my 16.3 chestnut trakhener cross on horsemart and too have only had muppets that know nothing about horses, what makes it even worse is when your horse humours these people and is well behaved and looks after them completely, yet these people just can't seem to make any decisions and most of them are timewasters!!! It is a horrible process as it is very emotional and having to deal with idiots makes it even harder. I have been looking at the horsequest site in the last few days and think I will give it a go.
 
She is so good to ride that I never worried about her cribbing- what she does in her own time is her buisness- perhaps its because they are talented that they have an active brain!

That's what a trakehner breeder I've spoken to said......they have so much intelligence, that it doesn't always get directed the right way. I think it's quite common for them to have that slightly stressy element running through them which shows in vices.
Mine has chilled out since being at current yard, and doesn't crib at all, despite having a terrible cribber nearly opposite him.
 
Yes I agree- the bay was just too intelligent for words, he was so bright and had that pony cleverness on XC. He could have taken himself round an intermediate track all by himself, he always knew where to go!
 
I think you are being extremely sensible and absolutely doing the right thing. If it had been me, I would have told them what I thought of them! And this is an instructor for Gods sake....
