i took my horse to local RC open show yesterday, he's only just turned 4, it was our second time doing ridden showing. the first class we did was Ridden Cob, there was only 3 in it. he was a bit strong when we all walk, trot and cantered round but stood lovely and quiet etc... our individual show was ok bearing in mind ive not really schooled him and usually ride in a martingale, (wish i never put it on him in first place but i was ''advised'' to!!), and then i had to take his saddle off and i thought OMG he is crap for trotting inhand (thats why i dont do inhand with him!) but he trotted beautifully for me bless him!! we came 3rd in that class but i didn't mind because the other 2 horses and riders were ''pro's''.

Then in the next class we did mountain and moorland ridden, and again there was only 3 of us!!!! there was a dun thing not sure how it was M+M, it did its show and there was no spark about it, it look awfully flat, im sure he's a nice horse though!!!
then me and bear went out and did our show, he went round wonderful, cantered on right leg etc i was chuffed!!
and then a girl on a very nicely put together chestnut welsh D went out, she didnt stand nice for the judge, and then her horse wouldn't canter!!! nor did she halt and salute to the judge!!! the judge came over and looked at both bear and the welsh D and swapped us over the judge told the girl that the mares schooling is horrendous!!! and still put her 2nd!!! i couldn't belive it, and we all done a lap of the ring and her horse never cantered then either!!!

sorry for the rant but i was quite p***ed off with that, i know its all good experience but the welsh D was 8yrs and bears only 4yrs
i'll post some pics when the photographers have updated their website. thanks for reading this!!!!!!

This is the trouble with showing - I know it seems unjust but at the end of the day it is only one person's opinion - YOU know that your horse went well - try to remember the positive and move onward and upward.

Your boy sounds lovely and a real asset to you. Don't let judges placings put you down, you know how brilliant he is and that is all that matters

maybe the judge thaught that this horse had 'better' conformation-good example of breed which is why it was placed 2nd.doesnt excuse major lack of schooling! keep trying, it took me years to even get 4th at affiliated!!!
