There is no guarantee that her experience has all been correct - she could have spent her 60 years learning from numpty's! I'm not saying that she's clueless, just pointing out that her age does not necessarily mean she knows lots more than you.
Its always risky when somebody sort of 'takes you under their wing' in the way she has done because you start to feel that you are obliged to do things their way and that you cannot pick and choose which bits of advice you wish to act upon.
I think she is quite possibly envious of you and your lovely horse..
