I've only been riding 3 months so I know relatively little about training method and stable management, but I'm concerned about some of the methods used by the owner of the yard I ride at. Horses are frequently hit and tied up and I've seen her in the stable many times jabbing them with a pitchfork! No joke - she gets their "respect" by poking them with a pitchfork in the stable and getting them really scared

I'm also not allowed to stroke or pet the horses because I will "ruin" them?? One horse who I have built up a really strong bond with seems to be at the forefront of the of this type of behaviour and is often smacked and hit. In fact, I was once told to whack him with the whip before getting on to get the respect of the horse, but I refused to do it so I didn't ride that day
This is honestly all true. I'm actually the only person who actually visits this yard as all previous people left, the record of which I think is 8 weeks before someone left.
Is this animal abuse? I for one don't want to treat horses like that, I'd actually rather not ride than treat a horse or any animal like that.
