I've only been riding 3 months so I know relatively little about training method and stable management, but I'm concerned about some of the methods used by the owner of the yard I ride at. Horses are frequently hit and tied up and I've seen her in the stable many times jabbing them with a pitchfork! No joke - she gets their "respect" by poking them with a pitchfork in the stable and getting them really scared:(:(

I'm also not allowed to stroke or pet the horses because I will "ruin" them?? One horse who I have built up a really strong bond with seems to be at the forefront of the of this type of behaviour and is often smacked and hit. In fact, I was once told to whack him with the whip before getting on to get the respect of the horse, but I refused to do it so I didn't ride that day:(

This is honestly all true. I'm actually the only person who actually visits this yard as all previous people left, the record of which I think is 8 weeks before someone left.

Is this animal abuse? I for one don't want to treat horses like that, I'd actually rather not ride than treat a horse or any animal like that.

Vindicated.

Do you seriously want an answer to that? Vote with your feet and give your money to people who love and value their horses. I'd also report them to the BHS if they are an approved school. Which I doubt they are by the sounds of it.

totally agree with above - its disgusiting. get as much evidence as you can, safeley - video evidence, scars, marks and report it - horrible people!!!

It's not a school. It's an ex-livery yard that is owned by just one person. I get free riding in return for doing jobs and helping out, but I've seen some horrible things done by the owner.

Another thing that annoys me is that it's always my fault if the horse does something wrong, that is because it is 'looking at me' thinking I'm a soft touch?

I'm just like WTF most of the time but I learn keep my mouth shut.

def get evidence and then produce this to BHS/RSPCA WHW etc she cannot and MUST NOT get away with that, what a nasty (can't really tell you what I'd like to say or do to her) cow she is for ever thinking that is how to treat an animal..... blood boils!!! :(

PLEASE report her for his as yes it is cruelty to her horses how disgusting!!!

sorry but if you keep your mouth shut you are as bad as them - worse thing ive seen on my yard is a livery, an adult - kicking her pony after shed caught him when he ran - i was disgusted and told her so - animals cannot speak, you can

I'm sorry? Is this post for real? Surely you don't need to be an equestrian to understand you don't treat ANY living creature that way?

It's all real! It isn't a riding school but an ex-yard and I ride for free in return for doing jobs and helping out. She says it to get their respect and get them listening to her, but it really pains me to watch it. One time the horse got really belted for dripping water on her when it was having a drink.

I'm 100% serious here.

Is that it I've seen the horse I love attacked with a pitchfork in the stable. Also tied up and beaten:(

Cant stand this sort of cruelty, id have shoved her head in the bucket, and again whats happening with your horse when youre not there ?

Nah don't bother with the RSPCA, they are nit interested in animal welfare unless it is breathing it's last breath (sorry don't mean to offend anyone who supports or works for them, just personal exoerience :( :( ). The best people to get inboard are Workd Horse Welfare or any other horse welfare agencies. Good luck.

Bloody hell, that's terrible!! It must break your heart every time you're there.

The trouble with reporting this sort of thing is unless the horses are emaciated/starved/ on their last legs, it's impossible to get any attention from the welfare people. On the other hand if you could get this sort of thing on film somehow you would at least have evidence to show to whoever you report the owner to.

Yes it does, It also ruins my confidence as I'm always doing the wrong thing and being shouted at.. She rides in a very old school manner, so it contradicts everything I've learnt at my riding school.

Old school is not to hit your horse before you ride or hit it at all.... it's not old school!! I also think you should get some footage and send to BHS and WHW. Those poor poor horses. I could cry.

So what if she's a troll? If she's genuine all those people who have posted advice have done the right thing... If you think this is a troll then why do you feel the need to announce it? I see a lot of genuine posters calked trolls on this forum and you can bet those genuine ones probably won't bother asking for advice next time.

So very well said.

Are you an adult?
If so then DO something about it, RSPCA, or whoever contact them and report it!!!
If you are a child/teen then take an adult with you to witness this abuse, or get your parents to report it, NOW!!
