Is this horse lame?

What a lovely looking mare, she's a cracking type!
There is no way to accurately judge her soundness based off those 2 videos, it would not be a fair assessment as she isn’t being run up properly and she's clearly very tense. Yes, I'd want to have a much better look at her soundness behind, but for £1500 I'd probably pop and see her and make my own assessment

I agree.

I think the Easterbys would know if she was. More years experience than most of us put together.

Exactly my thoughts, glad it’s not me over analysing.

Amazes me they’ll sell a horse moving like that, I know she’s cheap.. but still.

Very sad, she is beautiful. I am absolutely cr*p at spotting lameness on just short video clips, but even I can see she really isn't right. Well off on the merry go round she goes, heaven help her.☹️

I don’t know massive amounts about race horses but I’m fairly certain many are incredibly one sided. She may be lame or she may just be very one sided making her look lame, and also not being trotted out very well. It’s impossible to tell without videos from behind.

Or do they just need to find homes for these ex racers, despite her not being right, they don’t have the time to investigate. I can’t see a vet would say her movement is correct.

Would a horse race moving like that?

No record of her on Racing Post that I could find, so it would seem she has not raced.

At £1500 and the stamp she is, plus a proven broodmare, she is well worth a punt. The video doesn't show enough of her movement, the area they are trotting on is tiny, she is rude to handle even on the chifney so there is not a true trot up being seen.

If I was in the market I would potentially take a punt on her but would want to see her in the flesh for all the reasons above.
That being said I could afford to lose £1500 and PTS if she was completely knackered. She is a cracking stamp of a mare for not a lot of money, and 6mo-1yr out in a field may do her good, or she may have hock arthritis/SI/sacro or a million other issues.

She looks like she's got a really sweet face, hopefully someone knowledgeable gets her and she's fixable

I am awful and spotting lameness and don't ride anymore but I'd want to see her on a longer "runway" and given a bit more freedom with her head and see her properly moving. Surprised they don't have a bigger area they must have to trot up those that are racing

They've at least put some guidance on rehoming on their website and want their horses to have a non racing agreement so you'd hope they want to set them up to succeed

Sounds like she was too slow to race so hopefully wouldn't have been in training for loads of time to put strain on her body

I would agree that there's something not quite right from the stifle down. Can't put my finger on it being the stifle or the hocks though. Especially more noticeable on the trot back with the darker hind leg.

Wh
How sad In more ways than one.
Why ?
The Easterby's are actively looking for a home for her, they have forgotten more than most people will ever know about keeping horses. She is only rising 6, a strong type with very nice breeding. All she needs is a bit of time and an owner used to TB's.

I’m also normally bad at spotting difficult to spot lameness but this is ver6 obvious- poor thing looks like it’s stepping on pins. Shame on the trainer selling her in that state.

Which is probably why they only want £1.5k for her. How can you tell that all she needs is time? That may be true, or it may not, but they aren't going to sell a horse like that for peanuts it's worth more.

Why is she worth more??? Exracehorses aren't going for much anyway. There are ones out competing regularly, lovely paces, generally all round nice horses and they are up for £2000/£2500. It's just the way the market is. If I'm honest she is probably a bit over priced for what she currently is.

When I watch racehorses on TV walking round the paddock before the race I often think they move strangely behind. I assume it's the camera angle or something. Interesting that this mare moves in a similar way, only its not the TV camera creating the illusion this time. Do race bred TBs have a slightly unique hind leg action anyway? Even when not lame? It looks to me like they don't really bend the stifle and hock and all the action is coming from the hip.

I actually thought this mare looked worse in walk, mainly because of the poor quality trot, but I'm certainly no expert.

A friend bought a big gelding from Easterbys. She had a lot of trouble with his rubbish feet to start with, but after they were sorted he's been fab.
