is this horse shopping list too long?!

OK, thanks, that's helpful. It's just that I'm a very small woman - 28" inner leg - so when I ride in jumping length, I find it hard to ride anything bigger than 16hh. But you're right that people probably estimate the size of their horses and I should expand my range. nice to see that you think that's the only area I'm being too restrictive in. thanks :)

Agree with the others on the height thing but with your budget I would say its not a overly unrealistic wish list. I'm a small rider like you 29" inner leg and I got a fine 16.1hh WB that I suite fine. In actual fact she was advertised as a 16.2 hh but passported as 16.1hh and rides like a 16hh.

I'd def look at the height issue. I have a 28" inside leg and have a 16.1, a few days ago I was looking at some photos and wondering if I looked a little too long in the leg for her, dressage length stirrups mind. She is a warmblood so not terribly narrow but pretty fit. I can't imagine you wouldn't be able to get your leg on something 16 hh.

it took me over a year to find the right horse in which i had many disappointments. height wise you are not being too picky as 14.2hh for me was the smallest i would go and i had seen a 14.1hh and wouldnt buy it it has to suit you and for the horses comfort too. if the horse was grey and otherwise perfect then you should of said yes ( excluding the height) it doesnt matter about the colour its the personality of the horse that counts. again why not coloured? they can make exceptional horses. but you arent sounding too picky although you might find that your perfect horse is 5 hours+ away and trust me if the horse is right for you you should get it adn the travel is worth it. i travelled 4 hours to find my dream horse. i wish you the best of luck

Yes, you are being far too picky. Wrong height by 1" and wrong colour?? Decide what is the most important thing to you, ie, a show horse for particular classes/quiet hack/good jumper, nd decide which criteria are essential. As they say, "A good horse is never a bad colour"

I know you're right...but a grey horse does take longer to bath :)

I'd agree with most horses being smaller than people think. I was sure my Connie x was 15.1hh, on the stick he's 14.3hh. My rising 4 year old is to make 15.2hh, I was sure he had gone over that. He's 15.1hh on the stick. People are always astounded when I tell them their true heights and scurry off to rethink their own.

I've got friends who are convinced their horses are 16.3hh plus. They're not, probaby pushing 16hh max.

Randomly reading through old threads and thought I'd resurrect this one for all who posted - I ended up finding the perfect one (and you were all right - my height requirement was too restrictive!)

Bought him last May (can't believe we're coming up to a year!)

He's 7, 16hh, brown gelding, KWPN, BS winnings & an excellent jumper, suuuuuper sweet and cuddly on the ground, fantastic hack, very calm and 100% lovely! The most honest & genuine horse I've ever come across.

His flatwork is ropey (at best) but he's such a superstar in other respects I really don't care. I'm still in touch with his lovely previous owner, I think she's coming down to Wiltshire from Essex to visit him this summer!!

We've not done as much as I'd hoped to, yet, that's coming this summer! but I'm delighted with him. He was (just) under budget.

Just wanted to say to all those looking - keep looking! they are out there!

I think you should just go into each horse with an open mind. If todays grey was the 'one' you wouldnt be fussed that it was grey you would look past it. Maybe you just didnt click.
When i was looking for my daughter i wanted a minimum of 13hh idealy 13.2 so it would last not a mare i didnt really want a bay as i can find them quite plan. I wanted a been there type ideally 9 or above so had years on the clock.
I ended up with a 7 year old 12.2 bay mare:rolleyes: but she is perfect and more. Less than a year later daughter is doing far more than i ever intended ive just filled in her BS regerstration which was never intended they just are ding so well.
I didnt really even want to look at the pony but am so glad i did she is just perfect even if she wasnt what were looking for!!!:)

Edited to ad just realised youve found one, serve me right for not reading till the end
