ebs has apple squash in her fast fiber to give it more taste [95+% water]
and tescos had no apple squash today  so got cherries and berries..... please tell me this is ok to use? i dont use alot just to give the fast fiber favour?

thanks (: x

Squash and juice is full of sugar (even natural fruit sugar) that a horse is not really designed to eat...saying that so is molasses, lickits and other treats and most mixes so if you are fine feeding your horse sugar in it's diet, then chucking a load of squash over it won't 'harm'. Fenugreek is a natural way of stimulating a horse's appetite.

Just a very small spalsh of apple juice goes a long way and doesnt give them too much of a sugar high :D You can get the tescos value stuff and it lasts 1-2 days :)

is she worth it? ;)
Ahh i better use up this stuff but after ill get that how big is the bottle?
cause my squash lasts over 2 weeks? and for 89p! its alot for a poor person ;) x

Fenugreek is a herb - think it's kinda aniseedy - think sambucca lol!

Anyway, traditionally its been used to stimulate appetites, Feedmark do one and it's quite reasonable although I dont think it's down to the 89p level!

If the juice is safe for you to drink, it will be safe for your horse. I'm just a bit fanatical about keeping their diet's 'natural' especially as both of mine tend to err on the mental side - and cutting out any sugars from their diet eliminates me landing face down in a newly ploughed field :)

well she is on the crazy side.... :p
Haay i guess its worth a try if i look online ill get a better deal than around my area :p which seem to be very expenive!

dont worry louchpearl im only joking [hence the winky] :) x

i think her parents pay for the upkeep of the pony but she has to buy extras for it like this :)

I would have thought its fine as long as its sugar free!!

Sorry but that is not the point here. To scrimp and save for something so basic and to be feeding squash to a horse is just ridiculous. What on earth would actually happen if the horse needed some money to be spent on it?

Maybe I'm strange but if I could not afford to provide my horses with everything they needed I would not have them. I have spent thousands over the last 12 months on a horse that may never come sound again, yet he has the best supplements and care possible, even though I cannot ride him at the moment. If I could no longer afford to pay for these I would sell my fit and healthy horse to provide for him - simples!

We had to do this for a dressage horse that wouldn't eat it's med (Had a tendon injury). We tried everything, apple juice, squash, sugar a small pinch, apple mashed up, carrots mashed up we even went to the extream of treacle!! He would pick his bucket up and lob it over his stable door. Never did him any harm, and he was slightly crazzy as well.

I even know people that give their horse guiness, half a pint a week!! :)

I dont really want to speak for her but this is a child (sorry teenager :) )who is paying for the extras with what i assume is her pocket money/allowance??! Im sure if the horse needed anything the parents would pay but this is just a little extra and not a big deal :)

I presume you must shop in waitrose. Go and start your own thread about how only rich people should have horses. Not buying a horse expensive freshly pressed apple juice does not mean the horse is not cared for. It means the owner is not an idiot with more money than sense!!!

BSJA - does your horse not eat the fast fibre without the squash on it??? Or do you just think it looks boring? If it's the latter, a very cheap way would be not to put the squash on it as horses don't really think like us - they dont see a brown mash that they get everyday as 'boring'. If she doesnt eat it have you tried any other similar products that she might find more appetising - then your wouldnt have to worry about faffing around buying juice :D x

ahh no she doesnt eat it and i was told its a bulker but its not going to work if shes doesnt eat it so someone said try some juice as it adds favor and it works...

PMSL, Waitrose? - no. Am I rich? No. Am I an idiot to want the best and to go without for my horse? - well maybe.

So I am an idiot for taking care of my horse? For paying for his vets fees, for securing a good life for him? Get over yourself.

YES it will be fine - if it's safe for you, it's safe for your horse - it's just not a very natural feed additive, although lots of things arent!

Fair enough but just be careful with the sugar mass in it, it may well bring on issues like colic or lami. I know you are trying to help and it is commendable, but sometimes the cheapest options can cause the most harm

my horse is looked after, shes feed excised watered and get all she needs to stay healthy :p
Thanks alot guys :) just another question if you dont mind, is any favour ok?
ill try the fresh stuff but just wondered? x
lami in a tb? never heard of that lol

Sorry but there you go again. What a ridiculous thing to say? All horses can get Lami, especially TBs who are predisposed to having feet problems, with their flat fee, thin soles and under run heals.
