Hi i'm am wondering if any of your horses have done the following as i can not get my head round it.
Put horse out in NZ rug yesterday medium weight with neck cover and got there last night and rug was in a mud pile at the end of the field with all straps still done up and it was not ripped. Luckily she had a fleece on as well and this kept her very dry but i cant work out how she got it off with everything still done up!!!!

Mine did this all the time.

He also used to shred the rugs from the inside out, in fact my lightweight was a mediumweight once.

Its costly!

Yeah my 17.2hh WB used to be able to do that and regularly did! He could get his Fal Viking off with all straps done up and no rips

no idea how he managed it, I've been told it is possible to get it down over their head if they get their tail over the fillet string. Never seen him do it but I used to call him Houdini!

My horse has done it a couple of times, but he had leg straps rather than a fillet string!
He then used to stand there shivering because he was cold....

I would love to watch her do it!! she has done it before with a bug rug but not a heavy NZ rug. I can just imagine her getting it so far then my pony helping her by pulling it at the front. He was very excited and found standing on the rug. Think it will take a week to dry!!!

My 2nd pony (13.2) developed sweet itch one summer... so we temporarily decided to put my 11.1's fly rug on her... it being a good few inches too small, with a neck and belly part...
We came down later to find pony lacking a rug - and rug fastened, not at all ripped down the bottom of the field...

I believe it's magic

My sister's pony used to get his stable rug off every night and it was always fully done up!

Have also found on occasion one of them has managed to get a NZ off fully done up in the field and it does leave you wondering how they do it!!!

A friend's horse used to love to get hold of the his companions rugs with his teeth to stop them from running away (esp if they were smaller than him). Maybe your horse has had some help!!!??
