Mum has been asking me to clip the wee dude for ages now, I keep saying I must do it but just haven't gotten round to it. He's now very yak like with some funky leg warmers to match ?.
I've been absolutely inundated already this year with people asking me to clip horses and, even with 6 sets of blades, I'm struggling to fit everyone in and get blades back and sharpend in time.
I was thinking of doing mum's pone on Thursday morning, but with said clipper sharpening issues I do not want his scuzzy, greasy, cobbiness blunting my blades (I love him but he is disgusting)!
Would it be really, really mean if I bathed him tomorrow night? It would be at around 5ish, so not too late, but not exactly early either. The yak hair will take a while to dry as well. I think mum probably has a Thermatex for him somewhere, so I could chuck that on him afterwards to help dry him and I know he has one of those waffle cooler rugs so I can use that aswell.
I think nothing of bathing my thin coated/clipped ones in this weather, but I'm just wondering whether he might get a bit chilly with so much hair needing to dry. I've tried hot clothing him before and it unfortunately does nothing to dislodge the deeper greasyness. What do you guys think?

ETA: he's only 7 and in good health as far as we know, so no worries on that front.

No, I bath all horses before clipping. Whack a Thermatex on him, make sure he’s got plenty of hay and he’ll be fine.
much better to be chilly for an hour or so than to have sore skin from blades pulling!

That's a point! I was only thinking about me, hadn't even given him a thought as to whether he might be uncomfortable ?

If he’s inside and just give him his food after and he will heat himself up ☺️ You can take the excess water off with a towel if he’s sopping..not a towel you like ?

Oh don't worry, he already has his own towel! I made mum buy him one after she used one of mine on him, it went crunchy and solid (I don't know how or why, supposedly he was clean) ?. He now has his own and I have mine for (as mum calls them) the posh horses ?

All kitted out then!
Don’t worry I had to give one of mine an emergency bath in the middle of December after she fell in a stream ??‍♀️ She lived but her ego was damaged

Well, there was small snag in my master plan in that the tension nut on my clippers decided to die on me the day before I planned on clipping the wee pone ?‍?. I had a whole day of clipping booked in and I don't know what happened, they were serviced around a month ago, but my tension nut just wouldn't screw on ?‍♀️. Luckily nearly everyone I had booked that day was lovely about it, only one lady that wasn't best impressed as she had a show to go to.

So, after having a small crisis and having to reschedule 4 days of clients whilst I waited for a new tension nut, I finally got round to doing Dijon today and I now have a happy mummy ?.

Before and after for anyone interested...

Sorry for the insta link, I don't know how to post them on here anymore.

ETA: I did bath him before I clipped him properly, but when my big clippers died last week I just cracked on with my trimmers to do his legs as I had some spare time. They were getting itchy and I didn't want to leave him till I got the big ones sorted. Didn't want everyone to think I hadn't taken your opinions on board!
