George was doing a strange thing tonight, he was tied up outside his stable and kept fidgeting and kicking at his w*lly that was dangling (sorry

), thought he needed a wee, put him in his stable 'no'. Lunged him lightly seemed ok. He has been eating, drinking, poo-ing and weeing ok, but when I left him this evening he was still doing it whilst hoovering up his hay. I'm going up later to check as I have 'new mummy' paranoia, but what do you think?

It's the bl**dy mosquito's there rife.....trying clipping a cob with them attacking and sucking in blood......TBH my cob was a good lad while I clipped his legs tonight.....but there quite bad at the mo,so could be causing him discomfort under his belly,maybe.....I would not worry to much!

Bert does this whenever it is out in the summer.

it is flies and midges *either that or he is a perve*

it you get the opportunity give it a clean whilst out and shoot some baby oil up there. I also tend to put fly repellent gel on the outside, not on his actual winky.

Check next time that he pees that he doesn't struggle to go, then take ages to put himself away/have a dripping problem afterwards. Just possible that he has a waterworks problem.

Maybe though he's just super relaxed.

Oh dear I haven't cleaned him since I got him - bad Mummy
frown.gif
, and you know when I lunged him tonight it was making that funny noise and I vaguely remember someone telling me that meant it needed a clean. So please excuse my ignorance but how do you clean it

i`ve never done it (thankfully

) but dont you use warm water and special sheath cleaner and then just wash it and get the bits out? someone will be able to tell you how to do it properly

You've probably realised by now that I never worry!!

It might just be a bit gunky, if I was you I would get a warm soggy sponge and just give it a clean round the outside and just inside. I don't do anything else with my gelding (apart from fly spray the area) and he is fine. His willy hasn't exploded through me not digging around to find all the gunk.

It is not a nice job!

I have been told by the vets to use a cleanser as rummaging around in there can cause problems as the smegma can be quite sharp and if it catches or cuts them can cause infection

I tend to clean his actual winkle and any obvious gunk from the outer folds and the whizz baby oil up there. I am not a whole arm disappearing trick kinda gal!

Please excuse my ignorance - what's the funny noise?

The noise you can hear is probably that his bits are a bit dirty, although I have no idea how that noise is actually made?! To avoid any unneccisary elbow deep cleaning, try and clean his bits when he takes it out. You will need warm water and sheath cleaner, and I use rubber gloves too..but not a sponge as rubbing with the sponge on their sensitive area doesn't go down too well with mine!
Just lather it up in the sheath cleaner and clean it off very well with the warm water. What will come off looks like black flakes of rubber. It doesn't need cleaning often..just once every month or two..or whenever it makes 'that noise.'!!

Him hitting his belly with it can be for a few reasons..flies, midges, mosqitos, or ofcourse he is being very rude!

Good luck

Oh dear anyone non horsey reading this would wonder if we are mad! I can't describe the noise as he trots I just know it's coming from there! Poor boy doesn't know what's in store for him tomorrow!

Lol Trish I know I felt exactly the same when I first got my horse nearly a year ago now
smile.gif
and I found out about willy cleaning.
Yes my lad's squeaks too when it needs a clean. I was going to do it the other day at home when I brought them home for a wash on the front as we can't use a hose to wash at the yard and no hot water there either. But I decided not to because I would have got funny remarks or stares from neighbours etc. You can't educate non horsey people so there was no point me trying so I left it for another day.
I have just won some sheath cleaner off ebay in a job lot and I'm waiting for it to come to I can give it a go as normally I use baby oil nowadays. Think I'm going to use sheath cleaner and then baby oil it after.
Have now got a kettle to take to yard and have told yo about it. She seemed fine about it as I explained it was there to make a drink when it gets colder and to have any warm water for emergencies. To be honest I have had to use cold water up to now and I felt really bad about it because it must feel horrible to the horse.
I don't go digging up the elbow either but I do check for beads of smegma inside his urethra so it may be worth checking in there too Trish because they can get quite big and impede urine flow.
I would also do as others say though as well and check for any swelling/infection and make sure he is retracting it ok because infections or not being able to retract their penis can be potentially life threatening in some cases as some members on here sadly found out
frown.gif

I now keep a closer eye on my lads bits as a result.
I would also suggest that flies/mosquitos/biting gnats may be the cause as well though as they hover around my lads bits a lot. The big lad has had a few more around which could be because he needs cleaning and as you have said your's is making that tell tale noise that could be the attraction for the flies.
Good luck and I hope he is ok and just turns out to be flies/smegma build up
Cazx

Had to clean hubbies horse there the other day, also my yearling gelding. I have sheath wipes, the stuff that falls out is disgusting lol.

Was a good mummy, even cleaned all the horseys bums lol

Other than running a hose over my horse's sheath after a sweaty ride/during a bath, and checking for a bean every year I leave it well alone.

I have never cleaned up inside any of my geldings' sheaths and have never had a problem. Sam has his dropped down rather a lot and it always looks very healthy too.

I have never done anything with either of my geldings, and they were both fine!! TBH, doing it often causes more problems than not....if anything just give it a squirt with baby oil, but otherwise leave well alone IMO!!

it might just be fly bites or something, irritating him, i guess, but if not...
with my geldings, if they'll let me, i clean it out a bit. rubber gloves, baby oil, rub in gently and get rid of all the dry skin, dirt, etc etc. turn the end inside out and get out the solid bit of smegma (eww) that accumulates there. more baby oil till it's cleanish and smooth.
oh, and don't do it with an audience, or you'll never ever hear the last of it. people have the most disgusting minds, and think you get a kick out of it, or make comparisions, or whatever. for heaven't sake. *rolls eyes*
i had one who just let me do it, no problem, but with the others i wait until they're sedated for something else, tbh, even if it's only every couple of years or something... not worth getting kicked for.

Beau and Lance get their bits out all the time!, They even do that disgusting whacking it off their belly thing when they are a bit excited.

I have to clean Lance's quite regularly as he has it out so much that it gets shavings etc stuck to it, he is a perv!

I just get some warm water and a sponge and wipe the gunk off his willy, I havent had to do Beau's yet as although he gets it out when relaxed, he is pretty clean.

As soon as you look down there they let is ALL drop out, think i have perverted horses!
grin.gif

Lol... because he is gorgeous!

TBH after trying to clean Sids the 2nd time and him trying to take my head off I decided that that was a route best avoided. I tend to do the whole baby oil squirt from a safe distance when he honours us with its presence! If he is feeling extreamly relaxed and laid back about things I am " allowed" to pick the worst bits off!
