its not that serious i dont think, what happens to my horse is that he beomes tired very quickly and pees alot!
we usually get the vet to check the pee sample, and if he has an infection he goes on a weeks course of trimadizeme which seems to work! i just continue riding as normal and just add the trimadezene to his feed at night! then at the end of the week i get another pee sample and vet to check it - if he still has sample then i repeat the process, if not then its great!
Ooh, was discussing this today with the owner of the pony I'm riding. It's a regular occurence for her to pee at least twice on a ride of 2-3 hours. Owner thought she was in season though, so maybe normal if she is?
Peeing after work usually indicates tired muscles and you may need to add extra salt in his feed (not just a salt lick) It is usually more common when you have done a hard session of schooling, sometimes if the urine is a dark colour ie slightly brown or even more severe, brick red, this can be a sign of Azoturia, better known as 'tying up' this is a bit like cramp in a human! It is caused partly by over excessive use of the muscles when the horse is not as fit as he ought to be. Hope this helps.
Thanks for all the useful info- i think i'll take a sample just to get it checked out, but i give my boy electrolytes after a days hunting, to replace all the lost salts and minerals, but he seems to do it whether i go out for a 1/2 hack or a 2 hour hack!
