Is this normal????

Not sure if this is the right place for this but...
One of the geldings on our yard keeps mounting the mares, is this normal behaviour? He's a ex-race thorough bred, 8 years old.
Any suggestions? V

Some geldings do that unfortunately, but it might be worth getting the vet out to check he is not a rig. I would remove him from that field and turn him out with geldings only.

There are also some supplements for calming this kind of behaviour down but I've never used one so not sure how effective they are.

One of the pony geldings at our yard does the same. I think it c can happen especially if they are gelded late (which does tend to happen to racehorses in case they are good and so can be bred from). Our yard separates mares and geldings for that reason (aprat from ponies), and that pony has now been put in with the horse geldings. I'd separate him from the mares if you can as he may end up damaging them or getting a good kicking himself!

It's not unusual, and not just mares!
