After the very sad loss of our dear Belgian Shepherd 7 weeks ago at the age of 15 I am hoping to get a puppy, an Australian Cattle dog, in September, still need to work on OH a bit more, but I reckon he is ok with it, but I am feeling very apprehensive about getting a new puppy because it was such a very long time ago that we had a pup, I hope that I will be up to the task.
Is this normal to feel so apprehensive, or am just over thinking everything?

Big thanks for reading!

It is amazing how quickly you fall back into the routines of having a pup. When we lost our first rottie at 8 years old we took on a 6month old pup and then 12 months later got Dexter at 7 weeks old. Bit of a shock to the system but after a few days it was like the other dogs had never grown up!!

God, yeah, perfectly normal. I crept downstairs the first day I had mine, praying they would still be alive! I used to worry like crazy cos they would run round for 20 minutes then collapse and sleep for hours while they were growing.

Perfectly normal!!
It was hard for us to get over the guilty feeling at first (sorry for the loss of your Belgian Shepherd) and we did wonder if we could cope with a new puppy and with all the attention it needed - you settle back into it so quickly, don't worry! You'll be fine, its perfectly normal to feel worried before getting a new pup :)
good luck and more importantly, have fun!! K x
