i have made some threads before regarding my mares seasons. Well yesterday she was on the yard and as i was brusing her tail she started to squat a squirt everywhere which she has never done before while she has been tied up! But what was coming out was like a custurd yellow colour. She looked quite uncomfortable as she was squating, her stomach was wincing and she was huimping her back, then she just sort of 'expoded' for want of a better word and it was this yellow colour. It was no where near big enough or long enough for one of her normal wee's. She contined to squat and squirt after this. Here is a picture of what came out.
This is my first mare so i dont really know what is normal and what isnt.

I would say yes it is normal for a mare in season. I understand the first season of the year is often the worst i.e. most hormones and hence most painful. Not sure if that is true though.

It varies from mare to mare. It might be worth getting her tested for a UTI if she looks uncomfortable, and it sounds like she does - you said she almost exploded, so it's a definite possibility. I'd run down to your vets to get a urine sample pot and have a chat, and get a test run, if only for your own peace of mind.

I agree with Indigo Moose if she seems that uncomfortable she could have a uti but more than likely its just her flushing and a part of her being in season! :)

Thanks guys! how does one take a urine sample haha! is it just a case of keeping a bucket on standby just incase!

She's just in season, from what you describe. Some mares make more of a fuss about the whole thing - others, you wouldn't even know they were 'in'.

If she does it again over the next few days, then stops. I'd put it down to her season, especially if she starts it again in 3 or so weeks time.

My filly has just gone out of season. On Monday/Tuesday she was squatting and peeing every time another horse was lead past her stable within a 100 yard radius. She was going mad at bringing-in time

BTW how old is she? My filly behaved in a very exagerated manner during her first few seasons; as if she didn't understand what was happening to her and became very distressed and uncomfortable. And it's true that the first season or two at the start of the year can affect some mares more strongly. I'd play it by ear (or rather, by eye!) and see how she gets on over the next couple of months. Hopefully it'll settle.
