We took on a rescue, 18yr old ex broodmare, we already have a dominant
gelding. The day after she arrived she came into season, instigating the
gelding into trying to mount her, she spent the next 7 days squirting at the
gelding over gates/fencing, he calmed down and stopped displaying. The mare
half heartedly continued winking at him but stopped moving her tail, today
16 days since she came, she would appear to be in full season again, winking,
squirting and lifting her tail, I was only brushing her tail! Doesn't want to leave pretty boy again, even for her supper.
We had another mare for 2 yrs and she never behaved like this.
Any advice gratefully received
