is this pony really only 14.2?

Looking at the first picture I thought absolutely no way. Then looking at the 2nd picture compare the humans height to the horses withers.
Very odd.
 
very easy to confirm, if hes been showing at said level under 15hh need either an annual height or depending on age life one.


you have to remember proper cobs are wide! and take up the leg, we all thought mine was more like 15.1 but he does a rough measure with shoes on at 14.1-14.2

Even if you guess conservatively and assume that the person is really short, like 5ft maybe, the horse still looks at least 16hh. In reality I think he's actually more!

Your pony is lovely jhoward - I like his markings! He does look 14.1/2 to me though rather than 15, but maybe that's because with you on, you're perfectly in proportion to each other 80)

Nah I reckon it's 14.2... I have seen cobs that look massive at shows and are infact 14.2! It's an optical illusion...
 
Come on, I know someone who shows at HOYS and her horses have height certificates. They're the biggest 14 and 15 handers I've ever seen in my life!!!
 
On one hand, the build of cobs in general is deceiving. And the woman riding in the advert doesn't look to be over 5ft3 at a push!

One the other hand, I used to do A LOT of showing. You'd be amazed at some of the ponies turning up in height restricted classes. When Bruce was measured we got him down to 15.2hh....he is definitely 16.2hh at the lowest!!
 
That looks way over 14.2 to me, unless the jockey is really tiny (less than 5ft)

And we all know how reliable height certs are, wasn't there a show pony measured out by 3 inches recently?

ETA looking at the confo pic he hasn't got flat withers either.
 
Height certificates...hmmm. Some of the things somebody I know used to do to get her ponies to measure in I guess anything *could* be 14.2hh :rolleyes: And some 148 SJ ponies :eek: They're monsters! HUGE!

Anyway, I'm five foot, Lenny's no lightweight (Friesian X) and 16hh and I look bigger on him than that person looks on that pony :confused: But I guess looks can be deceiving, he may well be under 148.

I'm 5ft, and my eyelevel is 14.2 (when I've got shoes on), in the pic the handler's eyes are level with the lowest part of the horse's back , not the withers, so either she's about 4ft 10, or that horse is 15 hands at least.
 
Blinking heck, if that 'pony' is 14.2hh then the rider must be about 3' high, it looks more like a good 16hh, could well be a typo error
 
My daughter rides my 14.2hh coloured cob, she looks about the same size as the rider in the picture.

She's 9 by the way lol, and is about 4ft 6 inches.
So thats either a huge 14.2hh or the rider is tiny, as in the size of a kid x

Unfortunately I've no pics to post of her on him. I'm 5'2" on him and look totally normal on him, again telling me the jockey in the picture is either tiny or he's a hell of a lot bigger than they say.

Agree with others about life height certificates, I know of 13.3hh ponies competing in the 12.2hh classes, they are so clearly a hand bigger. God knows how the get away with it but they do.

Lol, me too! I have a friend who has the most mahoosive 14.2 in the world- yet it has a height cert??
She WILL NOT let anyone near it with a measuring stick because " she's 14.2 and thats that"
ummm, yea ok then! Wish my old 14.2 was as big!
 
I'm 5' and the same build as the rider in the pic, no WAY is that pony 14.2 because the rider doesn't look like she's any smaller than me (hard to tell though I know)
 
I think the rider has very short stirrups in the ridden pic judging by her thigh angle. Most people think my 14.3 cob is much taller, but I measure 15.2 .... ie 5'2", and his withers are level with the bridge of my nose, so I think that cob is possibly 14.2 and that girl around 4'10"ish.
 
No its 148cm from my past experience these go from 14.1 to 15.2!

My boy has a JMB at 148cm and he is more like 15hh. Might be worth a look though if you're interested.
 
I would say no however looking at my newbie my height and the other piccies people have put on possibly yes the jockey may just be small and she is quite skinny. Worth ringing up though?
 
Also just remembered people who don't know Andy is 148 they think he's 16hh from photos because I'm so short I make him look normal sized. Sometimes its mis-concieving
