I am going to start advertising field livery for resting/retired/any sort actually I was thinking £60 p/m or £100 p/m including hay. The field is quite a decent size, can pen off areas if required, grass is ok at the moment but I was hoping to attract people who had horses on rest over winter mainly. What do you guys think of the price?

£60pm is very reasonable - I would charge £80pm incl. hay for the winter.

I pay £100pm for stable and grazing, therefore, would not pay £100pm for grass livery, but is just my personal opinion :)

Both prices would include checking every day for correct amount of legs etc. It would be £100 if they wanted hay also or £60 if they provided their own. I would do waters and haying for that but I think it would be extra to give feeds as they would need to be taken out of the field for it and would take time. I agree that I wouldn't pay £100 p/m for just field livery though! :)

Sounds a fair deal. You might want to just check to see if you need insurance or anything if you are advertising to the pubic, heaven forbid anything should happen, but you just never know with horses. Just a thought :)

I pay £8pw for grass but it is DIY includes the water tap in field. :D I used to pay £4.50p.w for one horse or £9p.w for 2 horses in a field for them two only and the farmer moved the muck each year. :D I only left because of another livery (evil) long story.:(

I'd happily pay £60pm for that, possibly £80pm actually. Wish you were closer to us actually; would have been taking you up on it :)

Cant honestly see how you will do it for £25 per week with hay especially prices this year with care and custody insurance, business rates and public liability, you will not make a penny on your prices.

Yes indeed I hadn't factored in business rates/insurance, the hay is already sourced and I only wanted to make enough to cover some costs of my own horses but I may have to just ask around my friends to see if I can do it that way. Bloody tax eh? Grrrr.

Yard local to me is about £50 or £60 a week for winter grass livery with hay. It is aimed pretty much at people who don't want to have to do their horses every day (so they are checked twice a day by the yard) and there is a large barn for the horses to go in.

If you were anywhere near me, for £100 pm with hay and checks - I would bite your arm off!!! (fwiw, on the yard we are on I pay £40 pw DIY, plus hay, plus bedding - I think I'm getting a decent deal too!)

I pay £75 per month for summer turnout and £165 per month for the winter turnout which includes twice daily feeds, adlib hay and twice daily rug and horse checks! :D

Sounds extremely cheap - I think it'd end up costing you money at those prices. I've done a bit of research and retirement livery tends to be around the £50 per week charge, but for that the owner never needs to visit. I think at your prices, being so cheap, you might end up with horses dumped on you, owners disappearing and livery stopping being paid. Then you'd be left with field ornaments - what would you do with them if that happened? And yes if you are doing it commercially then you will need insurance and to pay business rates, plus you would have to check your planning permission on your field - are you allowed to use it for business purposes?
