Hello my cob has been displaying the following behaviors;
sniffing any poo he walks past
Standing with "it" hanging out next to a mare
When in school if a mare is there he canters about snorting,tail up etc.
in the spring he was very protective of the mare and no one was allowed near her, even i couldn't get gate open quick enough to get him in before he tried going through the gate.

He only has this behavior occasionally, he can be bit spooky at times and get bit flighty with things.
Friend suggested rig calm where another one suggested a normal calmer?

hard to say. I have a dominant character of a gelding who isn't a rig but does display some very stallion like behaviour except for not being interested in mounting a mare. I'd suggest getting bloods done to rule it out as it's the only sure way to know for sure.

Does he live in a mixed herd, just with one mare or in a single gender herd? Many of the things you have mentioned aren't that uncommon for some horses depending on how they are kept.

I have a 12 year sect D gelding that is very similar to yours. When I first bought him he would even mount my mare, thankfully he doesn't do that any more but he does get very excited if he meets a new mare and he can be aggressive to other geldings and is very protective to 'his' mares that live with him. He is not a rig but is a very dominant male. He was gelded quite late.

He lives with one mare and two other geldings. He was in woth my mare but after squishing me against a gate to stop another gelding getting near her, I moved her in with my highland. There are mares in field next t him which he doesnt bother about until they are in season.

The fact he is interested in mares when they are in season seems a bit odd, mine doesn't change his behaviour around mares, he is always the same whether they are in season or not.

given he is showing more interest when mares in season i'd definitely get those bloods done to check. it's the only way to know for sure what you are dealing with as a rig needs very different management/handling to the average gelding.

My pony was gelded late (6yrs) he's now 8yrs. He's obsessed with sniffing poo, follows me round when I poo pick. He's also dominant and can be bolshy if he doesn't like something.

He can't be with mares but copes ok being next door to them. I did initially have him on rig calm as heard very good things about it but as his behaviour his manageable xx

My lad is a bit like your Supertrooper. He was also gelded late aged 5 approx. I have him on molichaff calmer which seems to be taking the edge off of his naughtiness but was going to consider rig calm for him. I do believe though with any late cut stallion that they retain alot of the stallion traits which are not really things that can be trained out of them although the rude bolshy behaviour can be calmed down to a manageable level.

both mine will stop and sniff poo given the opportunity - and when I go for a hack with my friend and her mare he swings it all the way, I don't think it's riggy it's just pleased to see you my different smelling friend ;)
