I used to live in a very small village and my neighbour and I kept our ponies together rotating between her land and mine. She had a 14.2 on loan and a Shetland and I had a motley crew of three aged ponies one on loan and two owned by me. I had to leave the country for over a year for work so I found permanent homes for the two I owned with friends of our family and returned the other to it's owner. When I returned from my 18 months abroad I moved to the city and and keep my current two horses at livery.

However ..... Fast-forward two years and I found out through the grapevine that this neighbour who is no longer a close friend had to give her loan pony back at the owners request (don't really know the whole story) and now keeps her Shetland alone. I've seen pictures on Facebook and the pony looks very poor, covered in scabs and just looks sickly and she appears to have not maintained the grazing at all as the weeds are higher than the poor pony

I feel awful for the poor thing, when I knew her she looked nothing like that. I don't know if it's my place to say anything, maybe give a gentle nudge that perhaps the pony should be managed differently or maybe it's not my place. I think it's just the change in the look of the pony and the fact that she is keeping it alone and has done for the past at least three years anyway which shocked me a bit. I don't know if too much time has passed for it to be my business anymore? I'd be grateful for others thoughts as I'm really not sure where to go with this.

Sorry about the mammoth post!
