In two weeks my pony will have no field mate. I'm desparately trying to find someone to share with me but just in case I can't would it be a good idea to separate them for short periods of time so he can get used to being on his own?

We have 2, one is at home the entire time and the other goes out competing most weekends. They've been like this for almost 3 years, and they STILL scream at each other when the other leaves, boxwalk if the other is in the arena and they're in the stable etc, although when my boy goes out the mare usually settles after half an hour or so.

I'm not sure you'd be able to make that much difference in 2 weeks :( Although I've had to stable my horse overnight alone a couple of times and he was fine, so you can't really predict how they'll react!

Could you get a sheep or something to go in the field if you can't find a horse?!

Throw a few ad's up in equestrian centres, someone is bound to want to put their horse on grass full time now that spring is on its way. Or else they will know of someone that is retiring or has a retired horse, which would suit you perfectly!

A sheep is good cheap company if you do get stuck!

Don't really want to take on another horse as I'll have to pay twice the rent, although if push comes to shove may have to. Sheep are not an option unfortunately, have discussed it with farmer before.
