Hello - very frustrated buyer here!!

I have been looking for weeks and just not finding anything at all suitable - its seems around here people are still asking very high prices, for example

I rang up a couple of days ago about a horse, 8 years old, former broodmare, very lightly backed (e.g had taken rider and walked/trotted in school, not canter or hacked etc) been out of work for 3 months due to injury, not yet back in work, so not able to try - and the owner wanted 3K+ ?? breeding was good, but not amazing, this feels like an awful lot for what is essentially an unsound horse, well found out today someone had bought it and paid full price!! its been 2 years since I last bought so appreciate im not too clued up on prices but that seems crazy!!

I am looking for 14.2/3 ish native mother/daughter share, not too forward going, but willing. age, sex, colour, markings, scars etc not important.

I know safe comes with a price tag, but honestly what some people are asking is just silly IMO.

There seem to be soo many posts from frustrated sellers, am I the only frustrated buyer??

My budget isnt huge as have just had to retire old boy and had massive excesses to pay, even after the insurance had paid out :S
I own my own land and facilities, I just need the pony to go with them!!

Sorry for the rant, but v v non horsey OH has said he has all weekend free if theres any I'd like to look at, but there are none to go an see unless anyone wants to lend me at least 5k!!???

Giant chocolate cookies for any one willing to humour me, and if you'll excuse me Im off to try and sell a kidney on ebay!! lol

What area are you in?
How far are you willing to travel?
What sort of budget?
I`m a wee bit bored in work, i actually have work to do but hey its friday :D

I think it very much depends on what the horse is. A weight carrying horse suitable for a novice or an experienced rider always commands a good price. As do coloured's, spotties etc. But the market for "normal" horses seems very deflated. You seem to have had a real run of bad luck, hope this changes for you soon.

Hi Ayla

Im in Northants

Would travel up to an hour I guess, poss more for a pony ticking every box

Budget - max 2K :S

Glad Im not the only one meant to be working :D :D

ISH I know safe cobs are always highly sort after, but prices just dont seem realistic to me? may be my expectations are too high??

The only criteria thats really set in stone is 14.2 ish and not a total spooky pony, doesnt necessarily need to be totally 'bombproof' just realatively safe as it will be daughters 1st pony

yep, if I want to travel a couple of hundred miles there are loads, maybe thats what I need to do?? where are you Kpup, out of interest are you anywhere near me? wondering if I live in the wrong part of the country??

I'm not far from you, Bedfordshire.
I'm looking for something sensible, not TB, 15-15.3hh for hacking, hunting & that can get round a course of 2'6!

The market for bombproof/spook proof horses is very good at the moment as there are so few of them about. A decent one will cost you about £5,000.00. as people rarely sell them.

Owlie, I think that unfortunately you may be right, I'll guess I'll either have a to sell the other kidney too or keep saving :S

same goes for loaning them as well, which is something I would also consider - and there was little me thinking that I would be spolit for choice :(

I think it depends on which ads you look at. IMO horses on Horemart/Horsequest tend to be advertised at inflated prices. I certainly wouldn't have paid £3000 for the horse you are describing. But I have seen quite a few around the £2000 mark which sound similar to what you are looking for although I have no real idea about how far away they are from you.

Yes I do think a lot of the prices on the big websites seem over inflated.

I seems that the horse I want does exist and within my budget just not in my area.

Which is interesting, am starting to think of lining up a few viewings in the same area one weekend and taking a road trip, trouble with that, as a friend of mine found was that she had 4 horses to view on a saturday near manchester at least a 3 hour drive from us, one cancelled night before, one cancelled half way up the motorway as had sold, one was lovely but at least a hand smaller than advertised and the last one was in no way as described - one day, £60 of petrol - wasted!! :(
