Is this taking the p**s or should I just go ahead and ask?

I don't currently have my own transport and would love to compete regularly (every weekend if I could!) over the winter at local SJ/DR competitions. I have been hiring a trailer for BE events over the summer, but even at only £25 a day I couldn't justify the expense when I am entering for a dressage test at £8 a class!

There is a lady at our yard who has a trailer, and last time she saw me with the hired one she said straight away 'oh you should use mine, it isn't used enough, rather than hiring one' The problem is I don't see her that often - her horse is on full livery and she comes up to ride during the day when I am at work - so would it be taking the p**s to text her and ask her about using her trailer? I would rather speak to her face to face but like I say, we are never at the yard at the same time. Any thoughts please?

you could always say in your tx that you wanted to see her face to face but keep missing her and you hope she doesnt think your beeing cheeky by tx'in.

Whatever you do, do not text her, I think it is the height of rudeness.
You presumably have her mobile number so why not just telephone her?
I'm sure she wouldn't have offered if she wasn't serious about you borrowing it but it might be a nice gesture to offer to pay for it's insurance and/or servicing etc as a thank you

Make sure it is fully covered by insurance,I was asked by a RDA centre I worked at if the could borrow my friends trailer, I asked her and she agreed as it was to pick up a horse and it was for a good cause. The trailer was not insured and they had an accident,it was covered by the car third party but my friend's trailer was written off [luckily it was empty] They said it was the trailers fault because the brakes had something wrong with them, my friend was the loser.
I also lent mine to a friend once and it came back damaged and they said they had no knowledge of the damage.
If you do borrow it look around it for damage with her first and as I say make sure it is FULLY insure for someone else to borrow it

Did think of that, but would rather be texted myself - in case I am busy or something at the time - but I agree that perhaps the personal touch would be better!

OMG yes, I certainly wasn't expecting to use it for free! I was going to offer her some sort of contribution, depending on how she wanted to do it - maybe a fixed amount per month, regardless of whether I use it or not, or something similar. Depends what she wants really!

Good point, thanks for that! The one I hire is insured by the garage who own it, which is great - so easy for me! I'm still paranoid about damaging it however

Yes, I just took it for granted my friends was insured but she had problems insuring it because it was just kept in a field and they wouldn't insure for theft or something and mine that was damaged had an excess so wasn't worth me making a fuss about

Text her to say you would like a quick chat and when would be a good time to call.

Exactly what FMM said.

If she's too busy to answer leave a message asking her to call you when she has a free moment. I wouldn't text her about it- perhaps only to ask when is a good time to ring her

Just got up and did a bow for the jump judges whilst the photographer came running at me with his camera thrust at me to show me that he caught it all- (he got the preceding shot where I look like I am sliding up his neck) and then I got back on
