Is this the right thing to do?

Well my horse has been poorly for last 3 months or so and we think we are getting there and then some of the symptoms come back.

Spoke to my vet again this morning who said to have a break from my boy for a couple days to give myself time to recharge and not worry about him. As everytime I'm out he seems to have something else going wrong.

Would you do as the vet advises and have a break from everything or would you go out anyway. I've been good so far and got someone to check on him but I'm tempted to head out and see him. haha. I wonder why we have them sometimes. I have more worry with the horse than anything else lol.

maybe you do need a break, if it is someone you trust to keep an eye on him to give you a day or two off, then it maybe not a bad thing to do. When you are out and 'he seems to have something else going wrong' does he really or are you just worrying so much that you are picking up on little things?

It is so difficult when they are ill. hope he is fully recovered soon x

I think being away from them would make me worry more. At the end of the day you know your horse and i'd worry somebody else wouldn't spot something that I would.

Saying that, if you feel stressed, your horse is going to pick that up with one look at you and if they are recovering they need calm and consistant behaviour. If you want to go see them, go see them for lots of carrots and cuddles. If you feel like its all getting a bit too much and you need to relax for an evening, then do that.

Ultimately, relax, you can't do anything by worrying. What will be will be and unfortunately you can't wrap them in bubble wrap :-(

Well I have to say I'm not liking the not going out to see him. But as he's on lots of meds etc and I want to make sure he eating them. I did break the vet rule and went out to feed him. But I didnt check him over fed him and swiftly left. My YO is giving him a check over for next few days for me all I do is feed him.

It might help as I have to move house in a week and half and very stressed about it. So last thing I need it excess stress about the horse. lol. Think my vet knows me far to well

I really feel for you. I feel like my right arm's been cut off if I don't see Shy every day (twice a day). Not seeing them is like being asked not to see your child...

Being nosey here, but what's wrong with your horse ? Understand if you's rather not go into it tho

To be honest we dont fully know whats wrong with him. He has chronic inflammation of his hind gut. And thats as much as we have found out. Could be caused by something he's eating or a allergy. Think we are going to do a allergy test on him and possibly a referral for investigation op but things are up in the air at the moment.

Every few weeks he seems to have fluid build up in his legs and sheath or runny poo or lack of appettite and stuff. Its driving me mad and the vet nuts to be honest. He had tender stomach for 5 days last week and vet came out and checked him over. He had no other signs of colic so he was closely monitored for days on end and then he returned to normal but his legs filled up.

I'm stuck and hate not being there to see him but I can see where my vet is coming from all the same. Just doesnt feel right not seeing him. lol.

Blimey, I'm so sorry - what a nightmare. i don't know how I'd cope in your position. Are you fully insured ?

I read a few days ago that someone here was sending details of an unexplained problem to the vets at Liphook Equine Centre, as they are really good at coming up with answers, working with your vet. I know Laura Wheeler mentioned that she had done this for her very poorly pony Lucy, and found them to be fab. I'm sure she will help if you're interested in that route.

It must be not knowing that's the worst, on top of the feed costs, and all the stress you're under.
