It just screams "we can't farm them for £££££ anymore so better get rid" - and take out our angst at having our income taken away on the animal whilst you're at it too ay?

sick f*cks.

just goes to show it was never for the love of the animals in the first place - as much as I agree with the ban, the dogs are the victims of the money-hungry boom in the breeding of bullies as much as anyone else. They are something created for all the wrong reasons entirely.

The type of person who abandones them, is not the sort of person who had any care or devotion to the dog in the first place.

I dread to think how these animals lived prior to the ban. Cash cows, nothing more.

An increase in abandonment rate, means less of these ticking time bombs in unstable homes.

I wonder if at some point there will be an amnesty on handing them over for pts?

I really hope so. I entirely agree with the ban. In an ideal world those that already exist will no longer be bred from and will be kept correctly within the law, eventually the breed will no longer exist.

But this horrific cruelty imposed on this breed of dog mostly by those who are responsible for keeping them and allowing them to be bred and sold for ridiculous prices is so horrific. Haven't they caused enough suffering to the poor wretched dogs already.😠

There already was, it finished in march I believe. There was a government grant available to subsidise the cost of euthanasia on those the owners were not willing or able to neuter, muzzle and control the dogs public when they were first banned.

Well around here it seems to be business as usual. I see them quite often, being brazenly walked without muzzles. 🙄
Same around here, there's a lovely nature reserve i used to like walking there but unfortunately the local sink estate backs onto it and it's full of xl bully types being walked by idiots off lead and muzzle free so it's only really safe for a pre 8am walk now, shame because the evenings are fabulous over there watching the sunset

Its beyond me why these people couldn't just have done as was requested when they were given chance, i.e neuter/spay, chip them and whatever else was asked of them. I don't believe that anyone that has this type of dog couldn't have afforded to do this.
Even if I had a dog that could be mistaken for an XL bully I would have muzzled it in public save taking the chance. Its not rocket science.

They obviously only had their dogs for some kind of status symbol. It does make me mad. Its called being an irresponsible and uncaring owner.

Well why don't you report it then? I'm not being rude but they have been proven over and over again to have propensity for aggression and by not reporting it (anon if you want) you risk someones pet or God forbid a human getting killed.

I found one recently

I left work at 3am and was driving out of a quiet village on my way home. It was running down the road.

Hugely underweight, ribs and hips visible. Weighed 32kg when I found it. No chip.

The dog warden took it. It went to the RSPCA. Initially they didn't think it met criteria for "type" but after some feeding it was deemed to be type so was humanely euthanased

I found it 2 days after the ban came in. I suspect it'd been driven out of the city and just let loose

to who though? No one is actively policing it. I know one living with a woman and 18month old baby. The dog has always appeared friendly and kind to me, and has no history of dog or human aggression, but it makes me very, very nervous. Its not exempted. Nothing was done when it was reported.

Exactly this.

It just highlights that these are not good owners, or even people, and they really don't care about the animal.

Both of my dogs are spayed and chipped (the former should be default, IMO, unless your a responsible breeder of a breed that's not banned or under restrictions). Regardless of breed or type, I'd muzzle either if I had to.

Maybe it's just a matter of time till something is done. I expect they have a bit of a backlog.

we have no dog warden here and the police aren't interested unless the dog is being aggressive, believe me I have tried. Most people avoid the place now which is a shame 😭

I think you need to keep reporting to get anything done. If at all possible and safe, a photo of person and dog, time and location would be a help.
So i was coming out of the opticians yesterday and spotted the community police stand where you can raise concerns - spoke to the officer there and he said that they are woefully undertrained regarding bully xls and admitted he wouldn't be sure what breed they were if faced with one and many officers are not really dog people. They don't have enough manpower to attend a case of a suspected xl unmuzzled but not actually doing anything but would of course attend if an attack was reported or in progress, he also said that even if they seized a dog as being a suspected there is literally NO kennel space to hold them until breed was determined - so there we go more legislation that is a total waste of taxpayers money because it cannot be upheld and I suspect many XL owners know this and therefore won;t bother to comply.
