Is this too cheeky?!

I really want to get Murphy out and about to some local shows this year but have no transport :( so I was thinking of putting a sign up at the yard asking if anyone is going to a show and has space in the trailer, whether we could tag along.

If you read a sign like that at your yard would you just think I was a bit of a scrounger?! Or would it be OK?

Obviously will offer to pay fuel and clear out trailer afterwards, and Murphy loads and travels well and is calm and well behaved all day at shows, and I was thinking I'd put that on the sign.

what do you all reckon? acceptable or too cheeky?

I really do want to go out and about and do some fun stuff this year, Murphy loves going out and it makes me :( to think we won't be able to go anywhere.

no not cheeky at all, if you dont ask you dont get ;) have been in that position and scrounged lifts on lorries :). Just dont be too :( if noone offers and goes off in the trailer on their own. Its not other horses I have an issue with its Frank's behaviour with them! Also be aware that its a lot of responsibilty travelling someone elses pride and joy which also scares me a bit. :)
 
I think it is fine. the way most people used to get to shows but sadly our adoreable government has it covered and technically if you pay the person has to have an operators licience so please be carefull and buy them a drink or something.
 
Not at all....someone may be glad of the company and the financial contribution that you can offer.

I don't own a trailer or a horse at the moment but have worked a few riding schools with liveries attatched and most of my mates are on livery. Personaly I wouldn't have a problem with a sign like that and I can't think of many that would. I mean if they aren't prepared to take you they just dont say anything about going, its not like your cornering them and trying to sob story your way into a lift. Sounds like a polite note asking if anyone would be prepared to let you join them where they were going anyway. As a driver with a load of non-driving mates I wouldnt have a problem with it car and passenger wise.
 
I have a 2 horse trailer but only ever take one horse out (I only have 1 horse after all!), I dont mind taking anyone else if I'm going somewhere so I wouldn't be offended if there was a sign like that. I quite like the compnay TBH.
 
Worth a shot all people can do is say no, well actualy they don't even have to do that!

If I saw a sign like that and I was going I'd at least come and talk to you about it , suss out if your chap is a good traveller and if so be glad of the company.

I'm awlays billy no mates me. Also I had to scrounge lifts for many years so like to pay it back when I can.
 
I don't think a polite note asking for a lift is cheeky at all.

Someone at my yard constantly badgers for lifts and once managed to just invite herself along - now that is cheeky!
 
Not really sure on details or anything, but I know friends of ours who were going to be giving me lifts to PC and stuff hopefully this year have pretty much said they can't do it now as VOSA(?) have been pulling more people about transporting other peoples horses, if asked to show passports and a horse isn't yours... :( Don't really know much about it, just heard parents talking about it the other day. Something to do with not being able to prove that you aren't making money from it (even if the person doing the transporting isn't planning on taking money for it...)?
Really annoying as I was looking forward to getting out this year with Danny! :/
 
Ooh I've not heard this one - sounds like VOSA are just being asses as per usual and overstepping their jurisdiction - they are supposed to be there ONLY to check the safety and roadworthiness (also weights) of a particular truck or rig (car and trailer). It's not their flippin job to say who your friends are when you're going for a day out. Who's to say all these people who car share aren't charging their buddies when they go to work and this governement is trying to encourage that! god it makes my blood boil. If VOSA tried that on with me cos they could find nothing else wrong they'd get a serious strip torn off them and get reported to all and sundry I could think of including our useless local MP.

Go for the sign. If I was going out on my own I'd love the company. Makes it all the better on a day out. Nothing like going to a show or a fun ride with a group and then the miserable difference it makes when you're on your own and there's no-one to share it with and have a laugh.

I think the key thing here is knowing where the line is between asking for the odd ride out and constantly whinging and bitching (as in one of the above posts and I'm absolutely sure you're not going to do that cos of the very existence of this thread) if they left you behind, and not crossing it.

What a load of parp....not you Sol...the whole situation. Me and a mate have a trailer each...but if we go to the same show or decide to go off to the coast or something you're seriously telling me we have to go in convoy and not share transport:mad::mad::confused:

How very eco-friendly.......:(
 
I agree.... thing is, people who are agreed initially to give lifts don't want to 'risk it' :( All seems rather stupid, but they did say I might still be able to go to rallies etc. and places where they're less likely to check ;)
