I am useless about knowing how much work I can ask George to do which probably means he gets a far too cushy life

Anyway, my good friend is coming to stay next w'end without her family so we can catch up and have fun with George

. She is a much more confident and experienced rider than me and is looking forward to popping George over some jumps

SO, do you think it would be ok to hack him 2 miles (in walk) to the local UK chasers course, pop round some of the smaller jumps and then hack back?

Sorry if this is a really numpty question, but I don't want to do the wrong thing.

When u say pop round some of the jumps - uk chasers is a course that u have to go all the way round and back to the beginning which takes me almost 45mins- hour at a reasonable pace. A 2 mile hack in walk is gonna take about 1/2 hour so youll be looking at riding for about 2 hours with jumps as well? I do more than that on sponsored rides regularly and my horse is still up for more!

Course it's not!!! He'll be fine...and I dare say he'll love it!

I hacked my mare for 12 miles today. She was hacked about 4 miles yesterday, 8 mile fast farm ride/xc fences Thursday, hacked Tuesday, and the same 8 miles farm ride, lots of fences, last Sunday.

Tomorrow she's going hunting for the first time!!! I think George's hack to the Chasers course is perfectly fine......P wants to swap!

Absolutely fine. We happily hack an hour each way to shows (4-5miles) and compete in several classes. The horses are worked most days and fairly fit, and they don't find it excessively tiring.
