Is this unreasonable?

No rules on yard to say no horse should be left alone, owner just doesn't want it to be, however owner works long hours so it's mostly other people getting hers in!

10 min walk

If there isn't a rule there should be!

I'm confused here. If the other owner works late and is last to bring her horse in because everyone has done their horses and gone home, how is she bringing your horse in?

Weekends or just generally when I get there later? I'm a student, I get there at different times each day. As a result, my horse is cool with being out at whatever time with others or alone.

Out of interest, do you have a horse who can't be left alone? Hence the comment about the rule? I've never had one that couldn't be left alone, so maybe i'm a little unsympathetic but most horses seem to cope fine as soon as they get used to it? There's generally other horses in sight, just not in the field.

No, my horse would happily live out alone or in a crowd. I just think that it's a common sense safety issue. There may be new/inexperienced owners on the yard who don't know which horses are safe to be left out and there may be horses who panic when left alone. Dark field, lone frightened horse = accident waiting to happen and an insurance company may be twitchy about paying up for an injury sustained by a horse panicking because it's been left on its own.

Or indeed an insurance company may take a dim view if a person is injured whilst trying to bring in two horses at a time, one whom is known to be bolshy, rather than making two separate trips.

I always bring in one horse at a time. I certainly wouldn't go handling someone else's @rsey horse full stop.

My horse hates being left out alone, he is fine if put out alone but if you bring the others in he panics.
He is an angel to handle, and no one on the yard seems to mind bringing him in for me (he is happy to be brought in with something else) but it is a very rare occassion that anyone has to bring him in as i pay the yard owner to put out in tge morning and bring in at night.
I woul not willingly handle several of the horses on the yard as i dont deal with bad mannered horses.

If you have a horse which can't be left on its own owner needs to be there at a suitable time or pay a service to bring it in. Noone else should be put at risk or liability for someone else's property.

I am an owner of an irritating beast who won't stay out alone! She will go into a blind panic and go through or over anything until she gets in. It's a pain to have a horse like this but I do so I grit my teeth and pay for YO to deal with her if I'm not there.

I wouldn't be handling someone else's badly behaved horse on a regular basis.

Should add we have a "don't leave one out alone" rule and I don't mind bringing in the last one on occasion if they are well behaved.

Common sense safety issue - for the horse yes but not for the poor soul who ends up lumbered with bringing it in and definitely not if that person is one of those new inexperienced horse owners you mention. Most people would value their own health and wellbeing over that of somebody elses horse. If a livery horse which you willingly handled injures you and you are not staff, nobody or their insurance is going to pay for your loss of wages while you recover.

Would she expect you to bring in if you came up to ride during the day? In the situation where the horses can see others in the fields I would be getting pretty hacked off with it. Personally I don't like handling other peoples badly mannered yokes. I work with horses, and don't want to have to deal with rat bags in my spare time.
I would also question what would happen if someone got injured bringing in someone elses horse. You could be left unable to earn a living and face losing everything because of it. I have known it happen.

Thanks everyone, figured as much, though thought I might not be being sympathetic to their issue since my horse is fine whereever I put him :')
Just abit awkward when everyone's friends and you don't want to rock the boat!

If genuine friends then it shouldn't be an issue. We came to an arrangement whereby Mon-Fri we turned out and the other person brought in, because of our work circumstances the time we got to the yard in an evening varied. However ours started being a bit of a handful occasionally to bring in and they said they were really sorry but they didn't feel confident in dealing with him and they would have to stop the agreement.

This caused no ill feeling at our end and we still turned theirs out in a morning as it didn't particularly add to our time.
