A lady at my yard said when it gets cold use back travel boots in the stable as it will go over her hocks and keep them warm? which i thinks a great idea for arthitis but was worried that she wont be comfortable over night?
does anyone thing this is worth trying til i can persuade mother that we need to invest in theses hock boots? :)?

Also i shouldt be riding but i got ebs in a outline yesterday while warming up for my mate :p so im over the moon aha

I wouldn't myself as they affect freedom of movement - either of ours would get themselves in a bit of a stress if left in travel boots.
Oh mare has the starts of arthritus (ahem, spelling, sorry!) in her hocks - she has wraps, fancy neoprene hock boots etc and it hasn't made a blind bit of difference! Lots of turnout, careful warming up and cooling down when ridden and being v careful with the going esp when jumping are the things that keep her going well and staying comfortable.

If you're nearing the end of your 'sentence' riding gently will be fine- my sister smashed her collarbone up last year (in a very similar fall to yours) and was back on after a week off (despite an advised 8!).

Secondly- I can see that being rather uncomfortable really... Could you invest in magnetic boots? My old boy was had arthritis (mainly in his shoulder) all the time we had him- we kept him in a magnetic blanket overnight, made sure he was well-rugged, and used cortaflex. Really really helped him. If he was having a slightly stiffer week, we'd use bute, or the herbal alternative to help him keep moving...

Hmmm I've never seen or heard anyone doing this... I can see the logic in theory but have to say i'm not convinced, the way my horse walks with her travel boots on I dont think she would like having them on all night and might try getting them off herself. Oh and she also gets rather excited when the travel boots go on as she loves going out she I think she would also be a bit confused.

Glad to hear you are on the mend

I think travel boots would be too thick and uncomfortable, unless you could find some thinner fleece ones perhaps. Remember that travel boots are designed to be on a horse that is standing pretty still, not getting up and down in the stable etc. What about some magnetic wraps or something?

right i wont bother then :p lol
yeh we are going too look in to them but there not cheap things are they? :p lol
shes on cortaflex and is doing dressage for a while so hopefully that will loosen her up :)
thanks x

Hock boots arent expensive :) I think about £10

magnetic boots are more expensive

travel boots would be dangerous if left on in stable - if horse rolls could stand on or catch boots and pull them off leg - risking a sprain or tendon damage!
