Im feeding my horse all top spec at the moment and im Just wondering has anyone found anything cheaper but just as good if not better? Her feed mainly consists of the linseed mash as she’s 4 and is quite fussy! Anyone use any other mash’s?

I have really only fed the Top Spec balancers, lately the Senior, as recommended by a vet and the Anti Lam. I have to say that the improvement in coat and body condition was very apparent, even though they were getting a "Senior" feed before.

Still, I shuddered a bit when I say how much the bags cost to buy (as I don't any more).

What are you trying to achieve with feeding? Eg. does she need energy, weight gain or just general vits and mins?

I've gone a lot simpler for my feeds in the last couple of years and tend to use unmolassed sugarbeet, grass nuts and grass chop and if more is needed then add in micronised linseed. I do add in a balancer so that I know they are getting everything they need.

Trying to achieve weight maintenance and ensure they have all the required vitamins and minerals. But it’s proving to be rather expensive just feeding top spec

Yeah I agree my girls coats are beautiful but £40 a bag is just ridiculous

depends on the horse.....i dont really rate TS feeds but have one who just LOVES the linseed mash (above all other mashes i have tried 5/6) and thus will eat all his supplements in it no problems and licks the bowl clean (instead of throwing it round the stable thus encouraging mice) so for him its worth it to know he's getting what he needs.

it keeps weight on him nicely without making him sharp so i guess i cannot complain!

I don't do premixed bagged feeds - such a ridiculous markup for what is usually the cheapest ingredients. I also don't like that you don't know what they react to when there's about 7 different things in each bag. Look at any of the top ingredients and it's all wheat and oat by product. You may as well buy a bag of the cheap nuts which are also made of milling seconds and save yourself £30.

My boys get pure grass pellets, linseed and a big handful of a mixed oily herb blend which I add to depending on what's going on with them at the time. I supplement their feeds with a vit and min supplement.

Mollichaff condition? It’s a complete feed with vitamins and minerals…

I’m also a big fan of Pure Feeds, again complete and full of good things!

One of my Arab's is so fussy he will eat something for a bit then say no thanks, but I have been feeding oily herbs now and he eats all of his bucket feed and is far less fussy I think.

I feed the Senior. It has a biotin supplement and joint supplement in it, and when I compared to other balancers + supplementation I was doing better price wise on the TS Senior per month.
