Seems to me a lot of people add inches to their horses.

Serveral friends have said thier horses are 16.2hh or above and then I have hacked out with them on my 16hh horse who at a stretch might get away as 16.1hh defo no bigger...and she is taller than said 16.2hh but instead of them saying oh my horse must be smaller, they add the inches to mine and say no way she is 16hh she must be 16.3hh at least etc...:o:rolleyes:

I mean I have not had her height done offically but the tape can not be out by 3 inches surely.

Views???

I actually think I do the opposite! My TB I say is 16.2 although next to other 16.2's he looks bigger amd everyone says he's bigger. My ID I say is 17hh but then he's probably about a hand taller than the TB! I must get them measured so I know for sure!

yes, i notice this all the time. at the end of the day, the horse is only as big as he is! no point adding inches to him. i didn't even know exactly what size my boy was until i got him home and measured him myself, because it doesn't matter to me.
also noticed it a lot with jumping - when i have riding lessons at uni i'm always shocked when people seem to think we've been jumping over 3' in a lesson when it's usually 2'6 at most.

I agree, so many people overestimate their horse's height.

Millie is 15.3hh but most people guesstimate her at 16.1hh.

They get a shock when they meet Vinnie, who really is 18hh (in their measurement he must be 19.2hh!!)

Phil is somewhere between 15.1-15.2hh so I tend to say 15.2hh as he's deep in the girth and can carry taller riders well. It doesn't matter to me though :D

My horse has had the measuring stick against her several times. I'm still shocked every time she is measured and wish she was smaller!

There's one particular lady who tells everyone her horse is "a full up 15.3".
Well if he's 15.3 my horse must be nearly 18hh (which she most definitely is not!) ;)

I measured mine at 16.2 but she looks like a 16hh in the stable and a 16.3 outside :p But if anyone asks her height i say 16.2, well aslong as she doesnt grow anymore that is correct lol ... I once had someone tell me my last horse was atleast 16.2 ... my face resembled this  ... I told him he was just 16hh with shoes but he persisted he was bigger!! Then he went and stood next to him and said " Oh he is rather small!" well i did try and tell him lol

I've got a measuring stick, so no!!! :D I'm usually right.
I've got a measuring stick too, but my horse doesn't like it and seems to shrink the moment I get it out!
He measures 14.2 on the stick, but I'm sure he must be at least an inch bigger as he (in the opposite to how he seems to grow when he sees something spooky!) seems to try to shrink into the ground!
I don't really care how big he is in reality, as I don't look silly and he carries my weight fine!

I took mine up to the vets for vaccinations and asked them to measure her whilst I was there.

So, no, I do not exaggerate her height.

She is what she is :)

Mine is 15.3hh, and everyone thinks she is bigger. As someone on the yard said, she's really a 16.2hh without a wither ;) I know a LOT of peple think their horses are bigger than they are.... and visa versa, I have several times seen horses 16.3hh+ who people say "Oooh, he's just a full up 16.1hh" ;)

I know what mine are cos I've measured them......BUT one of them was sold to me as 13hh. Got him home and measured him at 13.3hh. People keep telling me he's bigger than that or looks to have grown....he hasn't- he's filled out and muscled up and possibly looks bigger than he is but no-still 13.3:D

Another horse I used to own was sold to me as 15.2hh. Got him home and everyone was saying- no, he''s bigger than that ....Lo and behold- 16hh.....

My horse is 17.3hh, I don't stretch the truth, I would rather he was 16.3hh! Would be easier to fit in the lorry!!
Here he is next to Marie Eilberg- showing his hugmonus self!

I don't give two hoots over how big Bug is but just find it amusing how some people are obsessed by how big thier horses are. They seem to think the bigger the horse the better.

I have something of each height.

A 11.2hh
A 14.1hh
A 15hh
and a 16hh

Nope I tell it how it is, without shoes on too of course, which is how they should be measured, even got a measuring stick to prove it.

People often think he's bigger than what I say he is, they even say nooo he must be bigger than that, it's only because he stands tall but where his withers are, he's actually a short ar*e :D

My boy is 15.1hh, but like a lot of others have said, he carries himself really well and looks much bigger when he's being ridden.
Charlie76, that is one HUGE horse!!

i thought my ISH was 16.2hh i advertised him as that too.... turns out he is 17.2hh opps people were saying he was a rather 'full up' 16.2hh oh well no harm done :o

Mine is passported as 14.2 and was sold to me as 15hh. I would put him around the 15hh mark (certainly no more) and others have said the same.

It really doesn't bother me tbh and as I've got about as much chance of getting a measuring stick near him as I have of flying to the moon its all immaterial anyway!!

My cob is 15hh but people always think he's smaller! I'm not bothered he could be 13.2hh but he's perfect for me...although I did originally go out looking for a 16.3hh heavy cob so he's a tad smaller than wanted!!!:D None horsey people think he's huge because he's a heavy weight cob but horsey people comment on my 'pony' and I've even been asked if I wouldn't prefer to ride a 'proper horse'!!! Lol!! Once they've seen my 'pony' go round a XC course or gallop headlong down a beach they soon change their tune..wouldn't change the nutter for any 'proper' horse anyday!!:D

I do find people put alot of stock on their horses height, like it's something to be proud of, never really understood it myself. All I care about is if he can carry my weight and if I enjoy my time with him, anything else is superficial nonsense.

My girl is 16.1h - I measured her last week but people always question me and say she is bigger - I measured her because I thought she was much smaller :)

Pretty sure mine is about 15.3 (this is the most accurate reading i can get as measuring sticks are evil according to him) but i dont really care how tall he is.

out of interest what does "full up" mean exactly...either they are 15.3 or not....surely..

Well thats just silly, if they're all the same size they can share rugs and stuff ;)

I have a measuring stick, so I know their heights. People often have no idea though. When looking at ads it can be a bit annoying to travel 100 miles to find that the 15.3 is actually 14.2. How can you advertise a horse and be so far out ?

:D I was talking to someone the other day and she said that she'd measured her yearling recently and he was 14.4 or 14.5 now and should make 17h.

Bless, he's 13h if that, and as a QH probably won't make more than 15.2 at a push.

My riding horse is 14h on the nail. I don't have a problem with having a short horse and see no need to add or subtract inches.

mine are passported at 17.1hh and 15hh and i think they're pretty accurate  altho big girl has quite high withers so probably rides at about 17hh really, she poo's like a 19hh elephant tho:o:rolleyes:
babybibble come up to me boobies:D not sure what height they are:o

LOL fair point, i'll trade them all in for 11.2hh's.

Mind you the two middle ones are the same size rugs. Not sure Kes' (11.2) will fit Bug (16hh) though, maybe I could use his rug as a neck cover for her!!

Get him passported as Boob height.

I tell it how it is, the bay is 16h1" & the grey is 16h2". People always think the grey is bigger, up to 17h but he's just nicely muscled up. I've double checked & he's definately 16h2". :)

I don't know about adding inches to horses heights. I've seen some 15h & 15h1" 'ponies' having inches taken off, jumping BS classes as 14h2".........with a life height certificate that has to be 'moody'. :(

The last time I measured my 4 year old (beginning of the year) he was 15.1 and 1/2hh. I do tend to say he is 15.2hh if people ask and he could well be now! Although a friend of mine bought a 15.1hh (so she was told) recently and when I went to see him I thought, woah, he's huge! And definitely bigger than my boy! At a guess he looked 16hh but when we measured him he was 15.3hh. I think he was deceiving to look at because he is so much bigger all over then my boy.
