Is your horse as big as you think??

Yes, he is as big as I think and I'm often told he is probably a bit bigger! Passport says 17hh (despite his owners telling me he was 16.2hh before I went to look at him... but that's a different story!!). I've never measured him because someone clearly did for his passport, and because I don't really care whether he's actually 16.3hh or 17.1hh! He's bl00dy enormous, which is all I need to know, and definitely too big for me really. I always say if he was 16hh, he'd have been my perfect horse.
 
yep 148cm to be precise as she has a life height certificate in her passport from her Irish show jumping days, cant lie about my horses' sorry sorry i mean ponys' height lol!! :)

I was sure that my filly had grown but I measured her the other day... and she's exactly the same height that she was in the autumn. :( However she has filled out alot so she does look 'bigger' and more like a horse rather than a youngster. Hopefully she'll have a growth spurt at some point (she's only three), I really want her to make 15hh. :D
 
I agree that a lot of people over-estimate the height of their horses and some add inches on for some reason, perhaps they think it sounds better.

Mine has a height cert for 148cm, but we all know how reliable they are ;). I have a stick and have measured all the horses I've had, just haven't got round to measuring this one yet.
 
When I bought Tiggy I was told she was 16hh, at three and a half so due to reach 16.2hh-ish maybe, which was fine, though smaller than I was orginally looking for.

I knew she wasn't 16hh when I tried her (I'm dim, but not that dim :rolleyes::cool:), but had fallen in love with her and bought her anyway.

When she was measured nearly a year after I bought her, she was 15.2hh :eek::rolleyes::D.

Yup, m'hoss shrunk two inches in less than twelve months rofl.

Ah well. It was fine, she was a grand lass no matter what her height really was :D

As to now. I have a 16.3hh DWB. Then again, I might not have done a good job with the measuring stick, so she might be 16.1hh, I don't really care :D. I do know people that go on about her height, but why? She is what she is. The only thing I have to consider is what stable/trailer she can comfortably fit in, the rest is academic :rolleyes::cool::D:D
 
Mines 14.2 nearly 14.3 I think. We measured him with a tape not a stick as we dont have one so it was not as accurate. He has no withers what so ever and a long stride so dosent feel small and I can quite hapily hop on a bigger horse without them feeling much diffrent. It dosent really make much diffrence to me how big he is he suits me and as he is on the border between horse and pony I can enter him in what suits as when competing he probably is 14.3-15 hands.
 
Yes they are - my welsh C is 13.2hh nomatter how many people tell me he is bigger, he really really isn't! And in fact was dwarfed by several other C's at a county show I took him to recently.

My tb is 15.1 and a half. Though he has high withers. He should really be 14.2 I think!

It is quite annoying when people pretend their horses are ****** than they are. I had a real problem a few years ago, selling a 13.2hh coloured cob - he was full up 13.2, no withers and chunky. EVERYONE who came to see him said he was too big. He was advertised as full up 13.2, wide and cobby, and with a photo of me riding him and text saying rider is 5ft 7! Eventually i had to readvertise him as 14hh and then tell people when he came that he was actually 13.2. doh.
 
Haven't got a clue. I've had all of mine since babies, they're not for sale, and in my main discipline (endurance) the horse's height doesn't matter (but ideally you don't want a huge horse for endurance). I don't know anyone who owns a measuring stick and I refuse to fork out £25 plus to buy one. At a guess, they're 16hh, 15'3hh. 15'1hh and 14'2hh. And even if I did measure them properly, their height would change depending on where in the foot trimming cycle they were.
 
I spent years saying my boy was 16.1, everyone told me I was wrong then I had a physio who insisted on sticking him. Turns out I was wrong and he's 17hh lol. He's very high withered though ;)
